I don't believe the prosecution case is terribly strong. Wuterich, Tatum, and Sharratt all have first-class lawyers (wish the same could be for Dela Cruz). I can't imagine they'd recommend a plea deal at this stage.
I believe the accused can, and will, beat the charges.
The crucial question is whether the accused can continue to afford their first-class lawyers. That's why I've donated money to their defense fund.
If convicted, I still can't see a presidential pardon unless the political landscape changes radically. The Iraqi leadership is part of the picture in this case. The South Vietnamese government wasn't a factor during the legal wrangling over My Lai.
