Durham A trial date is now set for the ethics complaint filed against Durham County District Attorney Mike Nifong. . .
The bar takes issue with comments Nifong made early-on in the case.
Nifong's trial is set for May 11.
He hired an attorney from Winston-Salem to defend him.
A three-member panel will decide guilt or innocence, and then, depending on the outcome, impose a sentence. That could be anything from a warning to being disbarred.

Lawyers disbarring other lawyers?? Probably won't happen, but it should.
To: Always Right
I predict they are going to nail him. He may not get disbarred, but they are going to humble him.

It's GONNA happen in this case. Fong has committed the one crime you ALWAYS get punished for, i.e. embarassing the power structure of his state in a major way.

From where I'm sitting, they ought to disbar the SOB.

Why does it take 4 months? There almost as bad as Nifong, delaying a case.

Trial Date Set for Nifong Ethics Complaint The title should be "Trial Date Set for First Nifong Ethics Complaint."
This complaint is all about statements he made to the media a long time ago. I'm sure there is another investigation brewing about his conspiracy with the DNA lab director to withhold evidence from the defense lawyers.

It's more than a fair bet that there are additional grievances being prepared to be heard by the N.C. State Bar. Since the last meeting of that body, it has become clear that Nifong has impermissibly suppressed evidence that is favorable to the defense and lied about it to the Court.
In my limited mind, the pending charges pale in comparison to what has come to light since the N.C. State Bar Council last met. I have no inside information, but if the staff of the Bar has had enough time to make an investigation into the stuff that came to light in December, Nifong is getting ready to get a second set of charges filed against him.
More likely, the Bar's staff has not had sufficient time to investigate what went on with the DNA testing and the agreement to withhold evidence and then to lie about it. If that is the case, it will be April before Nifong gets a second referral to the Disciplinary Hearing Commission.
It is a fair bet that after the latest allegations shake out, that Nifong will have is law license suspended or that he will be disbarred outright.
Write it down.

As I understand the Bar Complaint, it does not even cover the
fact Nifong withheld evidence from the DNA tests.

Nifong said that the Duke lacrosse boys wouldn't have hired lawyers if they weren't guilty of something. So it looks like he is guilty, by his own logic.

They need to conduct a DNA test and a police line up for Nifong.
To: Tom D.
Democrats around the country are shocked by this democrat's behavior. When that happens, they EAT there own. Nifong has little hope of staying out of jail.
(But then again, I thought Black would surely face imprisonment his thievery of campaign contributions, but his fellow corrupt demorats have held back from throwing the book at him.)
What's odd is the lack of outcry from the NC Democrat-controlled government. Not one elected NC Dem official has spoken out against this miscarriage of justice.
