For the first time in 30 years, United Van Lines Inc. says it moved more people out of Florida than in, and analysts see that as a sign that consumers are looking elsewhere for a cheaper slice of life.
The nation's largest moving company reported 16,212 inbound shipments to Florida last year and 17,019 outbound shipments. United moved more people to Florida in each year from 1999 to 2004, but the number of inbound moves fell in 2005, spokeswoman Jennifer Bonham said.

I left S. Florida in 1980 and never looked back..........Come on up to the Panhandle (FWB/DESTIN) area......We still have lots of room left!........
If all the libs in Miami Dade, Broward, Palm Beach, Brevard, Volusia and Duval counties would leave then we'd be in business. Until then...
It's one of the reasons I left, this time for good...and it's not just S FL
Having not visited Florida since I was a child, my first reaction was "where did Florida go? All I see is concrete".
Wife inhearited a building lot near Ocala. Taxes just doubled.
The crime, congestion, taxes, insurance and overall quality of life has changed immensely here. You almost have to live like a tourist.
Ah yes the halfbacks. North Georgia and the Carolinas are full of them. And that is not a good thing.
S - E - L - L - !!!!!!!!!!!!!............
Your posts just doubled, too!.......
Glad to hear there is some land left. I swear....every lot that was in my radius of 10 miles is being built on. No more empty land. And the only hill I see here is the Pompano Hill (garbage dump) and I literally enjoy walking up the garage ramp. No hills here at all. No open land anymore....it's horrible. I've been here 7 years......it went from dirt roads to 8 lane highways.
HAHAHAHA!!!!
Inflation.
Having not LEFT Florida since I was a child, my DAILY reaction is "where did Florida go? All I see is concrete".........
During the 50's when I was a young kid our family went down to Fort Lauderdale and stayed in a nice little family type motel on A1A.I can clearly recall that you could look across A1A and see *nothing*...*nothing* but vacant land.
Then about 15 years ago I went to the same spot and all you could see was huge glass office buildings and condo developments. The motel where we stayed was still there...but had become a place where you check in by the hour.
Very sad,IMO.
My brother lives in Fort Myers and he saying the Northeasterners are starting to spread over their way.
Of course, they're bringing their East Coast attitudes, their East Coast mouths and the East Coast voting habits with them too.
Thankfully, it will be a while before they spread into SW Florida in a large-scale manner.
During visit to my daughter in New Orleans over Christmas, I met a man visting his daughter. He moved to FL upon retiring about 20 yrs ago. About 3 yrs ago he moved to GA, just above the FL state line, said costs in FL were going up much to fast.
It is sad. The animals that used to be around were all killed on the highways. I have seen tons of turtles, big birds(storks, etc), otters, fox, the common racoons and possum and even aligators. Sad. But as Rushbo says....it's progress. (I hate it though)
Don't worry there is really a postive inflow !!!
The illegal aliens from Mexico and Central America only use old pickup trucks & uhaul trailers to move in with.
