Eve and Steven Greene made a simple plea to the burglar who broke into their house: keep the valuables but return the cremated remains of their four-year-old son.
"Just drop it off somewhere with a note on it," Steven Greene said. "And that'll be that." It worked.
Someone left the urn containing the ashes of Zachary Greene at the end of the Greenes' driveway Wednesday morning, two days after it was taken in a burglary.
Police said a burglar broke into the home, snacked on Cheerios and tracked mud all over the house as he filled pillowcases with about US$10,000 worth of valuables - and Zachary's ashes.
Zachary died of cancer in 2005. His parents kept the urn above their fireplace next to a Play Doh fire truck Zachary made before he died.
honor among thieves?
My thought eaxctly.
Only because the urn didn't have any monetary value. I hope he left prints on it.
Maybe they should waited in the bushes with a shotgun.
Oldie but goodie.
"Only because the urn didn't have any monetary value. I hope he left prints on it."
The article didn't say he left the urn, only the ashes.
It's stories such as these that give me hope for the rest of us.

Urns can be pretty expensive.
Okay, but where does one fence an urn? "Would you like to buy this urn? I decided to use my mother's ashes for fertilizer."
I don't know. Why did he steal what he probably thought was a decorative vase in the first place? Who knows, most criminals are dumb anyway.
I know I shouldn't give this scumbag robber kudos, but I'm gonna do it anyway. Looks like he's still got a eensy-weensy bit of heart left in him.
Maybe in a few days time he'll got the whole 9 yards and turn himself (and the stolen items) in to the police.
How to steal $10,000 and still win admiration from some people? The guy is a scumbag, plain and simple.
This guy obviously doesn't know how to urn a living.
Don't be such an ash hole.
I know, I know..this is a very grave matter
Still, you can help but wonder what drives a seemly compassionate individual into such a nefarious undertaking...
