Cindy Sheehan, Mother to the World and international peace activist, released a response today to a New York Sun article that reported Sheehan was blowing off an appeal from a group of Cuban dissidents known as the Ladies in White to visit Cuban prisons this week while she is there protesting the U.S. terrorist detention center at Guantanamo.
In the Sun article, Code Pink leader and Fidel Castro groupie Medea Benjamin, who organized Sheehan's trip to the communist workers' paradise, is reported as saying that Sheehan and her traveling party had not seen the letter from the dissidents, but that the focus of their trip was on Guantanamo.
Hours after that article appeared, Sheehan published a rebuttal on the leftwing website Buzzflash in the form of a purported letter to the editor of the Sun.
In the letter, Sheehan states that Medea Benjamin does not represent her. Which may be so, but the two women have worked together through Code Pink for a long time. In fact a Code Pink staffer, Tiffany Burns, has been given the role of personal assistant for Sheehan (she still has the gig even after causing Cindy a trip to the hoosegow for failing to mail in payment for a traffic ticket in Texas.) and is in Cuba with Sheehan and Benjamin.
Sheehan regally commented on the plea by the Ladies in White:
I regularly accept invitations when my schedule permits and may have been able to accommodate this request if I, or anyone on my staff, had seen it.
Sheehan also observes:
It seems that these women are able to protest on a weekly basis in Cuba. I commend them for their steadfast commitment to improving the conditions of humanity and their courage to hold a candle to injustice.
Being that Sheehan is in Cuba as a guest of Castro's and is old enough to know what a communist gulag is, one can only put her indifference to the plight of these women as willing.
For those of you who don't know (Medea Benjamin surely does) the Ladies in White are a group of women whose husbands and relatives were imprisoned by Fidel Castro almost four years ago in a wave of repression and political intimidation against dissidents.
Contrary to what Medea Benjamin has told Sheehan about them, the Ladies in White are harassed and subjected to beatings by local Committees for the Defense of the Revolution, Castro's version of neighborhood watches.
Before Medea Benjamin cancelled a similar Code Pink trip to Cuba last year in the face of pressure from the Bush administration, she was going to have her traveling party meet with Committees for the Defense of the Revolution.
Sheehan closes her statement by trashing her country on foreign soil:
I am here to shed a spotlight on America 's inhumane treatment of prisoners at Guantanamo which has put a black stain on the heart and soul of what once was a nation that in times past was above such atrocities. I feel our house should be clean before we dare begin to hypocritically point out the garbage in others'.

StiffInMe Burns has been identified as working for Cindy's organization in some press reports. Cindy has been assimilated by the Code Pink Borg.

Though the microphones were set up for House members to speak after the meeting, Sheehan appeared and announced her continued anti-war stance and handed out flyers.
All this assumes that Sheehan can read.
Secondly, Medea Benjamin is an old pinko, a top supporter of Castro thru her "Global Exchange", and also a friend of another key Communist supporter of Castro, Leslie Cagan. She isn't going to let Cindy the Brainless do anything that would undermine Fidel.
Sheehan can't fart without Benjamin's say-so. Whenever she tries to go out on her own, she makes a fool of herself, witness the photos of her hugging Jessie Jackson and Hugo Chavez. Next she'll be kissing a photo of Saddam, Arafat and Morales unless Benjamin yanks her chain.
About the only honest thing Benjamin has ever done was to name her group "Code Pink". She dropped the last "o" on purpose.
Time that someone called a "Code Red" on her organization and really did a detailed expose' beyond what is found at www.frontpagemagazine.com, "DiscovertheNetwork".
