AMARILLO (AP) - An Amarillo woman who mailed 78 pounds of marijuana to herself was sentenced to 21/2 years in federal prison Monday.

Tiffany Joy Kelly, 28, pleaded guilty in October to one count of illegal use of a communication facility, the U.S. Attorney's Office in Dallas said in a news release. She has been in custody since her arrest in July, after a postal inspector in El Paso became suspicious of two Express Mail parcels.

A search warrant allowed officials to open the packages, which were then resealed and sent to Kelly at a motel in Amarillo.

Kelly was arrested after accepting the packages. Prosecutors said she admitted buying the marijuana and mailing it to herself so she could distribute it.

Another contestant for the 2007 Darwin award. That list is growing fast this year.

See what dope smoking does to the thought process?

She's a dope, but now we get to buy her food, lodging, health care, education, utilities, and cable bill for a the next two and a half years, so we're dopes too.

Thank Liberals for making prison a soft touch.

Perhaps hard time should mean just that, and it will become a deterent once again. I'm all for bringing back the chain gangs, and having prisoners do hard labor to earn their keep and repaying society for their wrongs with something of value, like road building, making government office furnature, etc.

From the article:

She's not going to jail for being a pothead.

I don't know why anyone would take such a risk when it's so easy to find an M.D. who'll prescribe Oxy and everything under the sun…weed is for wimps:-)

She gets 21/2 years in federal prison while the lawyer (Lynne Swanson?) who willfully aided terrorists got 9 months and Berger got less than a slap on the wrist.

I aint saying this dealer shouldn't be punished but it would be nice if the ones who really deserved it got a few decades to ponder their ways. I just wonder what would happen if WE went out in the streets shouting "no justice-no peace."

Probably not very much. After all; we have day jobs and families that we choose to take care of. It would still be nice if we could take back our justice system.

Well, I know some people who still do this all the time (in much smaller quantities) and have never been caught.

I think they're nuts, but....

How long does it take to smoke 79 pounds of pot?

I wouldn't know but she might just sell some.

Dealers deserve hell.
