WASHINGTON (AP) --
In a concession to the Senate's new Democratic majority, four of President Bush's appeals court appointees have asked to have their nominations withdrawn, Republican officials said Tuesday.
These officials said that William Haynes, William Myers and Terrence Boyle had all decided to abandon their quest for confirmation. Another nominee, Mike Wallace, let it be known last month that he, too, had asked Bush to withdraw his nomination.

One-party rule by a politically L party is *not* good for the US. I'm glad that at least now we have a divided govt.
I noticed that not a single item had anything to do with reducing spending or cutting the size of government. When did those stop being core conservative values?
I'm a conservative and I'm not irrelavant at all.
It's the wrist slitters who are.
"It's ok, the morons who stayed home only consigned 300 million people to this."
I didn't stay home.
The Republicans did this to themselves.
I don't think swing voters voted against pubbies because of pork per se.
They instead looked at earmarks and saw two problems - that the GOP preached fiscal conservatism but did the opposite, and that the GOP seemed to view pork as their primary reason to be in power.
So when the GOP turns around and says, "vote for us or the Dems will get you killed", they look at the GOP and say, "if you are so important, then why did you waste your power attaching a ton of earmarks to Iraq appropriations bills?"
And that is more rational to a swing voter than you care to admit.
The demographics on the last election suggest the 18-29 age group voted heavily Democrat. People in that age group have never experienced the crushing taxation that is the hallmark of having Democrats in power. Their paycheck stubs will soon tell them they made a big mistake.
If the Dems jack the marginal rates way up on income tax, my only refuge is to request participation in the salary deferral program. My company will simply put the money on the books in my name for a future withdrawal. It makes for a smaller paycheck, but when you consider the prospect of losing 70% of every dollar earned over the threshold, it makes good sense. I can take the money later.
Please stop it. Conservatives and FReepers didn't give the House or Senate to the Dems.
The Senate
There's the Senate right there. Game set match for the RATS. And goodbye to Constructionist Judges. And if you'll recall Schumer had no expectations of taking the senate, nada, none, zero.
And contrary to urban legend it WASN'T immigration illegals.
The Great Illegal Immigration Myth of '06
So please stop the bashing and the 'one issue' canard. The RNC and Karl Rove screwed the pooch, not FReepers or conservatives.
Yeah, Medicare spending and farm subsidies have a lot to do with the war.
FGS, that was 26 years ago. The world has changed, even if you haven't.
And we all know what went wrong: we spent six years arguing with people who should be on our side but aren't.
So since you lie about me, and are now an obstructionist to trying to fix what is wrong with the GOP, please - continue not to ping me or FYI me. You can continue to working within your ever-shrinking circle of GOP denialists.
FGS, were you crying when you posted that? You sound like Anderson Cooper.
Be a big boy and join the real world.
Don't blame the Dems for this fiasco. Blame the McCain Gang of 14 and the balless GOP controlled Senate that let them languish in limbo for years to preserve "Senatorial Comity". Frist had his chance to end this gameplaying supermajority crap forever, but was too gutless to pull the trigger. Let's see how much that precious comity buys them with Reid in charge.
Another happy liberal supporter heard from!
Further, the republican House was considerably more conservative than the Senate. Further, the voters and non voters did this, not the politicians. People will die and lose their fortunes now, because this stuff matters.
I can't stand him. I almost turned the channel on the OSU/Fla game last night when I saw the jerk had weaseled his way into tossing the coin at the beginning of the game.
I just need a conservative to line up behind.
Those on "my" radar are Gingrich, Brownback, Hunter, Bush3, Cheney, Kasich, any conservative governor.
I'd prefer a senator not be our choice.
Name calling. How quaint.
I would love to know how the massive medicare, welfare, and amtrak spending has anything to do with a "time of war." Oh, and the unemployment benefits--I thought war was supposed to reduce unemployment? Please, tell me how being at war means the govnernment should spend decadently on anything they feel like, vs., for example, reducing spending on non-war related investments?
So where was your representation when they passed the Marxist Free Drugs for Geezers program? What about No Boondoggle Left Behind? How about when the fence was passed and now de-funded? Bridge to Nowhere and associated pork?
If you oppose these measures, you're conservative. If you're conservative, you weren't represented.
Howlin, if you are gonna be a jerk, post to someone else. I don't waste my time with people who lie about my posting history, as you did on this thread. And I didn't respond to you, YOU responded to me.
