Toy soldiers on the border
The Washington Times ^ | January 9, 2007 | editorial

Posted on 01/09/2007 8:09:04 AM PST by Gritty

It sounds like Iraq or some other foreign land, but it happened on U.S. soil last week. Outside Sasabe, Ariz., a band of armed assailants stormed a National Guard border post and forced the Guardsmen to retreat without a shot. It was a personal affront to the Guardsmen, who should never have been in the unnatural position of being incapable of defending themselves in the first place. But they were, thanks to the Bush administration's look-tough, act-weak immigration policy.

*snip*

It's past time to rethink this policy of placing Guardsmen at the border but defanging them with overly restrictive rules of engagement, which now results in a humiliation for the Guard, and for the rest of us.

The center of the problem is President Bush's "Operation Jump Start," which is showcased as a supposed key element of the administration's generally toothless border policy. This farcical "initiative" has placed 6,000 Guardsmen on the border but disallows them the ability to do much of anything -- not even defend their positions. No wonder the uniformed personnel we know are so angry.

*snip*

"The nanny patrol" is how unnamed Border Patrol agents have described the current arrangement...

*snip*

If the administration can present any evidence whatsoever that "Operation Jump Start" is not simply a gimmick to look tough on illegals, it should do so now. We haven't seen any. Instead, we've seen an utterly ineffectual border policy and an "Operation Jump Start" which places Guardsmen in harm's way without allowing them to defend themselves. That's an abuse of the Guard.

*snip*

Close the border now. Inform Mexico that we will defend our sovereignty with force if necessary.

If this policy IS the way the article presents it, it's lunacy. Even a civilian is permitted to defend himself if threatened.

President Bush has really painted himself into a corner on the immigration issue. This incident is not widely known, because the MSM has not reported it. But the word is getting out.

I'm afraid it can only be explained by the old saying, "follow the money." Some big contributors have kicked in because they want cheap illegal labor, and the administration has agreed to help them out.

The same is true of our China policy, which is draining our balance of payments and closing our factories. Clinton began it, but Bush has been more than happy to follow in clinton's footsteps.

Reminds me of Beruit. Could'nt have a magazine in your weapon there either, until AFTER the barracks was bombed. I'm d**ned sure fed up with these Spineless, Scum-bag politicians (Both parties). I'm thinking its about time for us peons to grab our rifles and go secure the border ourselves. The Hell with "W"(I voted for 'em twice), he can kiss my grits!

I'm afraid I agree. I worked on the campaign and I'm VERY dissapointed in his immigration policy, or lack of one. It is almost comical how far Mexico is going and now are at the point of thumbing their nose at us Americans.

No, they're not scum, but Bush, Rove & Co. are COMPLETELY deluded on the issue of immigration, border control and hispanic politics.

The gimmick of the way the Guard was deployed and the fraudulent legislation for the "now you see it, now you don't" border barrier were cynical and disgraceful ploys.

The coming amnesty will, when the effects finally kick in, ensure electoral victories for the race-baiting and class-warfare demagoguing Rats for years to come.

This site was posted earlier by American Cabalist
http://euphoricreality.com/2007/01/08/world-exclusive-mexican-gunmen-involved-in-arizona-border-incident-actually-uniformed-mexican-force/

"As well, there have been some contradictory news reports that stated the gunmen came “within yards” of the Guardsmen, while other reports state that the gunmen were approximately 100 yards away. Mr. Daniels clarified that the gunmen came as close as 100 yards to the Guardsmen. He also stated that the Guardsmen did not “retreat” but tactically repositioned themselves to maintain surveillance of the group of armed men while simultaneously radioing for Border Patrol agents. He asserted that the Guardsmen had followed their protocols perfectly,"

"As the hostile force moved north over several hours, deeper into Arizona, National Guardsmen wearing night vision goggles were able to ascertain that the approaching gunmen were indeed uniformed (including PAGST helmets) and heavily armed. When the Mexican unit came within approximately 100 yards of the EIT site, the Guardsmen repositioned themselves in order to maintain surveillance and tactical advantage. They observed the Mexican unit sweep through the EIT site, and then rapidly withdraw back into Mexico. No shots were fired by either the Mexican gunmen or the Guardsmen. Border Patrol was on the scene within minutes of the Mexican unit’s withdrawal."

Sheesh, what's the big deal?

This band of armed Mexican assailants were just attacking some UNARMED National Guard unit that some lazy Americans refused to attack.

Heck we should be thankful this occurred. Why if it wasn't for these ARMED Mexican invaders, those NG guys prolly wouldn't have gotten their PT done that day. This way they got some running in when they were compelled to retreat.

These soldiers were given a law enforcement job to do and not provided with the means (live ammo) of enforcing their will.
They need to be sent back to their position in an armored personnel carrier and told to shoot on site anything that enters the country illegally.
Soldiers should not be used as police. Soldiers should only be deployed where you need kill people and destroy things.

Can a relatively older "rustpicker" tag along and contribute to the expedition???

Maybe I'm not that old, but I can still push buttons and steer...;-)

The Texas Navy might be able to take care of this...Find a few old surplus MkIII's, armor them up...Bingo...Instant expeditionary force for ya...

Illegal immigration is all about helping out the rich. (Class warfare alert!) The middle class pays for the illegal aliens through higher taxes to subsidize the medical and education costs (not to mention prisons, law enforcement, and other infrastructure costs). The poor pay for the illegal aliens in stiff competition for poorer paying jobs.

The rich sit back and get cheap labor for farming and manufacturing; labor they don’t have to pay benefits or retirement.

If the republicans do not close the border and create an orderly process for temporary guest workers, the bloodbath of the ’08 elections will make ’06 look like a Sunday School picnic.

So you're not dumb, if you've been an effective campaign worker, and you do care about the issue. The remaining questions are: what's the motivation for BOTH Republicans and Democrats to be on the bandwagon for letting some 50 million Mexicans and OTMs in, [more on the way!] and why will they NOT back away from such policies? You're smart; you can work this one out. Why is it bigger than the future of the Republican Party, and any possible Republican base backlash?

[Real likely hints *here* and *here*]

Oh and question Number Two: what are you going to do about it?

If there are any elections in 2008....

In that event, I'd be more inclined to suspect that they'll more resemble those on 1912, in which the Republican Parety's candidates took third place...and in some states, fourth, behind Eugene V. Debs and his Socialists.

From your lips to God's ear. I have been a pretty reliable Republican vote in the past. Not anymore. Whoever promises to fix this problem wins, in my book. I don't give a d@mn what party they are affiliated with.
