IF IT'S wrong for illegal immigrants to have drivers' licenses, why should the state provide them with health care? That's the conundrum that Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger will have to address as, after vetoing bills to allow illegal immigrants to obtain drivers' licenses, he pushes his plan to provide health care to all Californians, including illegal immigrants.
First, let me say that Schwarzenegger deserves praise for attempting to tackle the thorny and thankless task of trying to provide health care for the 4.8 million Californians who lack health care at any given time. (You've seen the number 6.5 million, but that's for people who, according to the state, have lacked coverage "at some point" last year.) Also, Schwarzenegger is right to mandate that all Californians obtain health coverage. As Team Arnold put it at Monday's press conference, his plan is based on "shared responsibility" and "shared benefit."
Schwarzenegger deserves credit for increasing the Medi-Cal reimbursement to doctors and hospitals. For too long, Washington and Sacramento have dished out medical benefits without paying for them.
But Schwarzenegger was wrong when he said this about health coverage for illegal immigrants: "I don't think there is a question or debate that they ought to be covered."

Why is this the responsibility of the governor and state of CA? We have so far lost vision of personal responsibility, that now we expect state run health insurance.
Two words: They shouldn't!!
Also, Schwarzenegger is right to mandate that all Californians obtain health coverage.Uh no he's NOT 'right'.
What's next? Does he "mandate" everyone buy a KIA? Or "mandate" that everyone wear purple on Thursday. Or "mandate" that you have yogurt for breakfast?
Mandate 'this' asshat.
And some people wanted to amend the Constitution for this MOPE? Yeah, like when hell freezes over and monkeys fly out of my butt.
Common sense tells me that the country of origin, in California's case mostly Mexico) should pay for the illegal aliens healthcare.
Why is it my responsibility to be Mexico's HMO?
friggin ridiculous!
why can't these people just use their REAL ID? Mexican drivers license is perfectly legal in California

I know from living in the SF Bay Area, longtime, that the amounts of illness my own children and that of all I know, was exorbitant. The illegals PLUS those who aren't into "immunizations as a political statement" have contributed to bringing newer illnesses into the area.
Beginning when my kids were young, the overswamped doctors just took to prescribing antibiotics, and having to refer to most infectious illnesses as "the creeping crud".
Newer strains of standard infections (strep, measles, etc.) made their way into the SF Bay Area. Infections for which there are no known innoculations or shots against.
We are talking secondary and third strains of STREP.... Staf Infection? Don't even get me going on this..
Whole classrooms were being wiped out by illnesses. YES, by illegals. YES, by "documented workers". YES, by "the au naturale groupies".

Answer: For the same reason Arnold feels it's justified to remove a sitting Governor (Davis) for simply being incompetant, but dead wrong to remove a sitting President (Clinton) for engaging in criminal felony action.
In both cases, the first scenario could be played up to increase ARNOLD'S power, the second scenario could not.
