"Many dead" as US hits Somali 'al-Qaida'
inthenews.co.uk ^ | 09 Jan 2007

Many people are said to be dead following air strikes in southern Somalia by a US warplane in an attempt to target a suspected al-Qaida cell.

The US government has long suspected Somalia of housing a small number of terrorists involved in the 1998 embassy bombings in Tanzania and Kenya.

The attack took place late on Monday night as an AC-130 gunship targeted a village in the far south of the country.

A senior government official told the Reuters news agency: "There are so many dead bodies and animals in the village."

There has been no indication by the US or Somalia to confirm if the air strikes have been successful.

The attacks come at a fragile time for Somalia. Recent weeks have seen Somali and Ethiopian troops on the streets of the country and the Islamic courts quickly forced out of their strongholds in Mogadishu in an attempt to bring stability to the country which has been mainly lawless for 15 years.

The Somali Islamists have continually denied any links to al-Qaida.

The UN has backed plans for a peacekeeping force of 8,000 people to bring harmony to the horn of Africa.

"There are so many dead bodies and animals in the village."

PETA is greatly saddened at the senseless loss of animal life......./s

"You can almost see my house in that picture. From my yard, I get to watch the gunships (and occasionally A-10's) shoot on the firing range just north of my house. It never gets old!"

I'll bet you got a real good deal on that piece of realestate huh? Sort of like living at the end of the international airports main runway.

"Murtha was on with Christie Mathews last night ranting about this US atrocity."

No, killing 250 innocent Kenyans is an atrocity. This is rough justice. Someone tell Murtha that Al Qaeda declared war on us. Are we sure this man was in the Marine Corps?

[Puff was the AC-47 used in VN.

The AC-130 older models are Spectres.

The AC-130U is called Spooky.]

Thanks for the headsup. Do they still use the AC-47? Or has "Spooky" replaced "Puff"?

Or is that FORTRAN? Man, I'm forgetting now. I think FORTRAN. BASIC uses "GOTO", no?

Yeah, Reuters will spin it as another "Wedding Party", and use the dead animals as proof

You jest, but the story on the Fox website says that witnesses report that there was a Wedding Party involved in additional attacks by helicopter gunships. I kid you not. You can't make this stuff up. But they can.

Witnesses said 31 civilians, including a newly wed couple, were killed by the two helicopters Tuesday. The claim could not be independently verified.

But that won't prevent it from being repeated in most outlets as gospel.

The helicopters apparently came from an amphibious assault ship that was already in the area, not part of the Ike group.

"Are we sure this man was in the Marine Corps?"

Sometimes even bad eggs get into the esteemed Corps: Don Imus played the bugle in the Marine Corps.

"One "plolitcal solution" that appeals to me, is to keep killing jihadists until they are all dead."

Now there's some dialog I can agree with. If the EU weren't such cowards, maybe they could learn to speak it too.

But "newlyweds" (which is all I see in this thread) is different from "wedding party".

Newlyweds could have been married for a year. ;-)

When I was in the air force I took a tour of one of these gunships and the guns were incredible.

They said they could put a bullet into every square inch of a football staidium in one pass.

"Associated Press writers Mohamed Sheik Nor and Salad Duhul in Mogadishu and Chris Tomlinson in Nairobi, Kenya, contributed to this report."

Figures. I was wondering why AP and Rueters always seemed to be in the same spot Jihadi terrorists were, no matter where in the world they are.
They ARE the terrorists, thy just write for AP and Rueters part time.

We wouldn't get biased reporting by someone named Mohammad, would we? ...

"If the EU weren't such cowards,...."

Yeah. All this is happening in right in their own backyard. I think that Old Europe is now militarily impotent because of the large number of Muslim immigrants they are trying to appease.
