Time to make everyone in SEC country mad at me.
Boise St. 2007 Football Bowl Subdivision National Champions.
Here is some logic for you.
Florida lost to Auburn
Auburn lost to Arkansas
Arkansas lost to USC
USC lost to Oregon State
Oregon State lost to Boise State
Who did Boise State lose to this season? NOBODY !!
Save the argument about strength of schedule and "didn't play nobody". How many SEC teams play non-conference road games? Think any SEC teams would play Boise State (or any other non-BCS team) home and home?
Nonsense. Most universities (mine included) lose money on intercollegiate athletics. Some lose huge amounts of money. Those few athletics programs that do make a profit end up spending the money themselves; they contribute nothing to the educational or research missions of the universities.
The 1-A state schools make money (and lots of it) on college football/men's basketball. There are isolated examples of women's basketball/men's ice hockey that generate revenue. It is these schools that control how the football process works and it is because of the money flow -- they dominate it and want to keep it.
You missed my point. Even if a team from the top conference goes undefeated, that is not good enough.
It is not about a close loss and whether SEC champ could defeat 11-0 -- it is about going perfect under the most difficult scenario possible and still not good enough because of bias/error in pre-season polls.
Well, I certainly do not want to stop people from having fun. And the other benefits you mention might well be valid reasons to support intercollegiate sports.
But those benefits could be achieved without sponsoring expensive semi-pro teams of "student-athletes" who are athletes first and students hardly at all. That is essentially what Division I football and basketball have become.
Here in Phoenix, Fiesta Bowl officials have been saying they are open to change in 2010. It will happen, in 2-3 years.
Some 1-A state schools make money on footbal and basketballor at least they claim to. In many cases, however, their profits are illusory, based on very creative accounting of their expenses.
Even if we were to accept at face value the assertion that a few Division I teams turn a profit, that still leaves the great majority that do not. Most Division I universities would be better off without the financial drag of their athletics programs.
Thank s I need that. Have a great day!
--why don't you learn how to vote remember 2000. --
Nothing wrong with the voting in FL. FL went Bush 2000 and 2004.
-- If a person who comes in here and states facts and congratulates the winner is a loser, you better get a life.--
I think most of your posts are about how BSU should be #1 and FL is just as much a loser as the rest.
They would have this year. Ole Miss and Miss. State were awful.
The SEC is the best of the best, no doubt. Boise State would not be able to hang in the SEC week after week. As much as it pains me to say it, I am a diehard Georgia fan, the Gators played great. Now next year, when the Dawgs beat the Gators, we will also be beating the National Champions!
Naaahhh...
I think the reason is that other teams want to play at Florida as an excuse to then go to Disney World!

Maybe we'll play ya there when they make the field green instead of that hideous blue. It hurts your eyes to watch their games.
I would rather vote for Boise State as well. Florida almost lost to U. Of South Carolina.
I've seen the "A beat B who beat C, therefore A will beat C" theory used to prove that Pone Kingpetch, the 112-pound flyweight could have beaten the heavyweight champion of the time, Muhammad Ali. Of course, that was done to show how ridiculous this "logic" is.
You might want to ask Boise State about how well it went last time they faced a team from the SEC.
The logic tree makes more as much sense as having sportswriters and coaches vote on it. They don't have time (nobody does) to watch enough college football to make fair sense out of it.
Playoff is the only solution.
--Did you notice they used PAC10 officials for the BCS championship game. The Buckeyes got screwed just like the Sooners. :-)--
You mean like how the officials 'missed' the OSU hold on the kickoff return on the first play of the game?
