Since the beginning of the nuclear age scientists, politicians, sf writers, TV, movies and environmentalists have been warning of the dangers inherent in atomic energy and weapons: Godzilla, birth defects and nuclear winter.

Of course the greatest fear of the all the naysayers was the use of atomic energy or weapons to eliminate totalitarian socialism.
