1.) Long prison sentence

2.) Decapitation of a limb

3.) Being stoned to death

4.) All of the above.

An acquaintance of mine is a young woman who was born in Ukraine and who plays classical violin. When I asked her what her parents did to encourage her interest in music she told me that, as a little girl, if she didn't practice her teacher would hit her. She made it sound as if this was a common practice in the FSU.
