Worthington's Hispanic community gathered by the hundreds Sunday for the first time since 230 workers were taken away Dec. 12 in a federal raid at the local meatpacking plant.
They walked into Prairie Elementary School one or two families at a time, not for a rally against immigration laws, but to share food, see supportive faces and watch children who'd had a wretched holiday season get free toys.
"I view this as the first step in the process of a whole community healing," said Sharon Johnson, coordinator of the Nobles County Integration Collaborative.

I hate to sound like a callous jerk...but if these kids had a bad Christmas, it's because their parents were here illegally, not because of ICE.
Now, it seems as though even the legal workers live in fear.
That's hooey.
If you're here legally and you're working hard, you have nothing to fear. If you're working to become a good American, you should have no worries.

Yep, you hear words like "collaberative" and "cultural awareness" you know which way the wind's going to blow.
All you need to see are the words Minneapolis StarTribune, and you can be pretty sure which way the wind is blowing.
I'm not saying they are the most leftwing loonytoon publication out there, I mean there's always "The Nation" & "Mother Jones", but then they don't even pretend to be unbiased.
Fewer Hispanic students have left school than educators feared, signaling that there was not a mass exodus of Hispanic families, Johnson said.
*sigh* Too bad, tells me they are not as afraid as they should be. Of course, I am afraid to drive through certain neighborhoods in my small city after dark.
The legal hispanics do have some trouble -- because of the illegals, the legals are harassed sometimes as well.
The legals need us to fix the illegal problem as much as the rest of us.
