George W. Bush is less overtly religious in his public pronouncements than many of his presidential predecessors. Yet his critics often portray him as some kind of zealot who sees himself on a mission from God.
Pundit Norm Ornstein perpetuated the stereotype on this morning's "Good Morning America". ABC senior national correspondent Jake Tapper narrated a segment on Pres. Bush's impending announcement of a surge of troops into Iraq. The thrust was that W is making his decision despite bi-partisan opposition. Not only are virtually all Dems opposed, but, as Tapper put it, "even some Republicans are expressing serious doubts about the proposed surge." To that effect, an excerpt was played of Senate GOP leader Mitch McConnell's appearance on yesterday's Fox News Sunday stating: "I think there will be some who will and some who won't [support the surge]."
That's when Ornstein popped up in a brief clip, stating:
"George Bush believes he's answering to a higher authority. And George Bush believes the stakes on this are too high to respond to political pressure."So . . . was Ornstein, with his provocative statement, trying to burnish his reputation as King of Quotes, or in his own mind was he simply being, you should excuse the expression, frank?

The msm fancies itself to be the highest power anyone in government has to answer to, so naturally they are angry when a leader actually believes in God as the Supreme Power. Liberals in the msm are sure the media is first and government is second in the pecking order in this country. The tax drones are only on the planet to produce revenue for the great plans for a secular Utopia proposed by these two masters.
When you consider the source of Bush's critics one should not be surprised.These critics are a bunch of Godless people that are enemy sympathizers and are at the same time trying to bring down America from the inside.I think the American people have disgraced this country and Bush because of their weak mindedness by listening to the body count numbers which are very low as compared to previous wars.If this mindset continues the enemy may just teach America another lesson.
Well, I personally don't have a concern with what Ornstein said. President Bush does, in fact, answer to the same higher authority that we all answer to--our Lord.

Is it not a basic Christian (and Jewish) concept that we all answer to a "Higher Authority?"
Seems to me that the founding fathers thought they were on a mission from God, too, but I don't hear anyone criticizing them for that.

Then you must not be hanging out on any left-wing blogs, or you'd hear plenty of criticism of those racist sexist white males for not setting up the United States as a socialist state.
These guys are just pissed that Bush has the constitutional authority to make these decisions and that he isn't doing what they thought the Iraq study group and the election results would force him to do. In other words: what they want him to do.
These idiots can get away with saying anything they want. Doesn't have to be factual, it just has to be their opinion.

Funny, I don't see any of those liberals who think it was so bad to colonize the US volunteering to leave. They seem to feel just fine about staying and continuing to enjoy the fuits of all that oppression.
The titles for these analysts should include the letters (D) and (R), if they've ever worked for a political campaign.
Well, he's been affiliated for years with the American Enterprise Institute, which tends to be pretty "R", if that helps.
