Dallas-based food chain to accept Mexican pesos

Starting Monday, patrons of the Dallas-based Pizza Patrón chain, which caters heavily to Latinos, will be able to purchase American pizzas with Mexican pesos.

Restaurant experts and economists said they knew of no other food chain with locations so far from the Mexican border offering such a service.

"We're trying to reach out to our core customer," Antonio Swad, president of Pizza Patrón Inc., said Friday.

"We know they come back [from Mexico] and have pesos left over. We want to be a convenient place for them to spend their pesos."

While U.S. restaurant chains have stepped up their marketing to Latino consumers and incorporated Latin flavors in the menu, it's unusual to see that outreach extend to the cash register.

"I think it's a very interesting idea," said Ron Paul, president of Technomic Inc., a Chicago-based restaurant market research firm. "They are catering to that audience."

But Mr. Paul said he did not see other chains rushing to emulate the program, in part because of bookkeeping headaches.

They can accept whatever form of payment they want, but their pizza is not very good.

This is just good business. If someone has pesos to spend, and wants to spend em, then let them do so, get some pesos, and exchange them for a buck.

It's a round about way to make a buck, but if that's what ya gotta do to fatten the bottom line, then do it.

Foreign coins also make excellent ball markers on the putting green.

I left NJ and moved to a "Red" state for this?
Perry won't even touch the border issue either, just like Bush in that regard.
Perplexing and frustrating as they won't vote Republican anyway. Weak-on-the-border Repubs are really doing the conservative cause great harm.

It's an easy way to make money because you will need to convert to dollars at some point and bear conversion cost for that. so you can add the conversion rate into the peso price and add on a commission for the service. ususally with higher fees than a conversion by a bank. If the person is to stupid or lazy to convert at a bank then they can pay the higher commission at the taco stand.

I go to Canada almost every summer, and almost every shop there accepts American money. If these guys want to accept Mexican pesos are are willing to handle the exchange issues, that's their right as private businesses.

Another way to exploit the illegal aliens through low exchange rates. Shame !

All under the guise of feeding the poor starving wretches.

Banking at Pizza Patrón, no social security number needed!

Indeed, the listed exchange rate (12/$1.00) is well above the market rate of just under 11/$1.00.

Oh, the humanity! Ripping off the poor and their chillun's ... everyone who patronizes the place (who would?) should give them pesos so that they choke on them. NO one should pay in $$.
