Environmentalists counting on Congress for drilling ban
abc ^ | January 7, 2007 | abc

A Bill has been introduced in the United States Congress to permanently ban oil drilling in a vast wildlife refuge in Alaska.

The measure has been rejected in the past, but environmentalists hope the power shift on Capitol Hill will change that.

The legislation would protect the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge on the Alaskan coast, which covers nearly 500,000 hectares.

The Bush administration has fought for the energy sector's right to exploit the coastal strip.

However it seems the newly Democratic-controlled Congress is trying to place the reserve beyond the grasp of the oil industry grasp for good.

Somebody needs to stand up on the floor of both the House and Senate and say:

"We know that the enviromentalist believe mankind should die off, to save the planet, but that is not the charter of this body.

Our responsibility is to do what's best for this country.
This includes ensuring our energy independance.

This means explorering for oil WHEREEVER it might be.
It also means reinvigorating our nuclear power industry starting NOW!"

Shouldnt the people of Alaska be the ones to determine if drilling will be done in their state?

Absent a Constitutional amendment one congress can not tie the hands of a future congress. Calling the measure a permanent ban is nothing more than sophistry. But for Democrats the perception of action is more important than the reality of what a law actually does.

Bush can veto it and the dems don't have the votes to override.

The enviro nuts will have the price of oil up to $200 a barrel soon, then we will be a 3rd world country too.

The Democrats are helping the terrorists because it puts more money in the hands of our enemies in the middle east.

Just think, its really is possible to take money away from these nutcase oil producers in the middle east.

1) Drill in the US. Every oil dollar we spend here, the Iranians or Saudis don't get.

2)Build nuke plants. Big time. Pluggable hybrids are just a year or two away. Cars can be run on electricity from US nuke plants. This makes the real difference because nuke plants are a proven technology that produce large amounts of power. Again this takes money away from the nutcase middle east.

What's stopping this? Liberals, Democrats, ignoramuses. But I repeat myself.

I'm going to side with the environmentalists on this one. After you read this post you may also.

Time to get a horse! That way I will not be the one to use up the last drop of gas. Every morning I will get up at the crack of dawn to feed hay to my new possesion. By 5Am me and Ole Dobin will be on our way to the big city to begin another productive day. I think it will be OK if I tie her to the parking meter in front of the office. That way all the environmentalists will get some firsthand knowledge of the process by which my new hayburner uses the feed I provide for her.

Just think of the benefits Ole Dobin and me will be providing to the community. No more noxious automobile exhaust fumes which pollute the clean air! We will instead produce only fine pure country aromas for all to enjoy.

I know that many of you are also thinking along these lines because I know you really want to save the world just like me and Ole Dobin. However, I must caution you that not everything will be perfect when Ole Dobin arrives on the scene. You see Iv'e been down this road a time or two and thin you need to know some of the small secrets of raising transportation of the equine variety. 1st the have voracious appetites. I used to acquire a barn full of hay each summer in anticipation of feeding my noble steeds through the winter. All through the winter and into the spring I would provide my charges with an ample supply of hay and oats to keep their coats in prime condition. Every spring as the robins arrived, I was rewarded for my work with a huge, I MEAN HUGE pile of fertilizer for my wife's roses.

I know that there are a lot of you out there that really like the smell of roses; but, Do you really think we can absorb all the newly minted fertilizer into our economy?

I know you get a bit annoyed with rush hour traffic, but have you considered the effect of 6,000,000 OLE Dobins in a place like New York or Los Angeles?

Just think about that for a few minutes before you rush out to get your own Ole Dobin.

Happy Trails to you until we meet again!

Semper Fi

An Old Man

PS: I think many of these environmentalists have much in common with Old Dobin, they are after all, full of the same stuff she is.

Either the Democrats are stupid (a good possibility) or they know that they are promising to do what is impossible - reduce our dependence on foreign oil AND continue to pander to the environmentalists by obstructing offshore and ANWAR drilling as well as nuclear power.

The same goofs will vote against CO2-less Atomic Energy....

We need a triple tax for libtards who try to 'have their cake and eat it too' by whining about 'Global Warming' and Energy prices out of one side of their mouths and THEN blocking good solutions out of the other.

However it seems the newly Democratic-controlled Congress is trying to place the reserve beyond the grasp of the oil industry grasp for good.

When will anyone point out to these idiots that they are not "placing the reserve beyond the grasp of the oil industry", they are placing it beyond the grasp of American citizens.
