Clinton "alienated his base" over and over and over again. Most of them went gonzo over WELFARE REFORM; to name just one thing.
WELFARE REFORM was in no way opposed by the majority of Clinton's base. Yes, the dems were left-wing back then and yes there were far leftist who were against WELFARE REFORM but that party was not as left as it is today and Clinton did get more than just the democrat vote. He didnt get mine, but he did get a lot of votes from the center.
