"Emotion-based" anything is never going to be rational.

It's the same as the wind-chill temperatures we now hear. It's "X" degrees outside with a wind speed of "Y" that means it feels like "Z". Some people just use the wind-chill number as the actual temperature, drives me nuts.

Wind chill does serve a purpose. When the weather is cold, and the wind is howling, exposed skin will freeze due to the "apparent" temperature. Fortunately, things like car radiators are unaffected.

My hands get really cold, though! ;-P

What I've wondered is how do they know what it "feels" like? It's cold, and with the wind, it's even colder.

While I agree that 'wind chill' is misused, it is a useful metric.

In Maine, we just said that wind chill just gave us something else to b*tch about. :-)

There's plenty to it, though. 20 below is chilly, but not bad. 20 above with a stiff breeze is $%$#%#!! freezing.
