Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.), poised to announce a White House bid, got a taste of the intense vetting that will take place in a presidential campaign. The Wednesday edition of the Washington Post ran a Page 1 story about Obama's drug use -- pot and cocaine -- under the headline, "Effect of Obama's Candor Remains to Be Seen."
Obama wrote about trying cocaine in high school and using pot in his memoir, Dreams of My Father, published after he finished law school. Drug use was not an issue in his 2004 Illinois Senate race, either in the primary or general election.
Obama returns to Washington today after staying largely out of the spotlight for a few weeks, spending the holidays with his family in his native Hawaii. In his absence, Obama's team has been organizing a presidential campaign -- from the field to finance -- to be ready once he makes it official, expected sometime this month.

How many trees will die so that the MSM can fully air the issue of why it's bad-bad-bad when a Republican is even suspected of drug use, but when a Democrat is in the same situation, well, heck, it's just the human condition, donchaknow.
Keep the powder dry...!
It is to LOL.
Hillary's flying monkeys at work.
"Vice" Presidential candidate.
So that's why he is the way he is - too many drugs took their toll on him.
My feelings are hurt. You left out Humboldt Home Grown...
Yeah, each Democrat his own vice.
You must have come of age in the 70's. I've heard of those drugs, but they were Cheech and Chong era stuff. I heard the window pane was supposed to have been pretty good stuff, but the only acid I ever encountered was blotter. Pot's been indoor grown around these parts for as long as I can remember and all those old regional varieties sound rather quaint.
Yawn.
Gang, if we eliminated everyone in DC who'd used illegal drugs you'd have an echo chamber.
IF we can't beat this guy w/ ideas, experience and rhetoric then we should hang our heads in shame.
"when a Republican is even suspected of drug use, but when a Democrat is in the same situation, well, heck, it's just the human condition, donchaknow.'
You don't suppose it's because of the different way liberals and conservatives see the War on Some Drugs? For socons to try excusing the Republican would be hypocrisy. Democrats could be expected to soft pedal the 'enormity' of it all because they don't think it's such a big deal.
Are you comtemplating running for President?
Spare me.
LOL!!!!!!!!!!!
No curiosity about where he got the money or who he bought the stuff from with?
Alabama Osama surely used "Maui Wowie."
Not really, but that could indicate that he had some shady friends and or associates. I'm sure the Clinton machine is hard at work talking to everyone he ever knew, and everyone who knows them. This is going to be fun to watch.
Chicaco Sun-Times?
Yes, but the other side of the coin is the 40% of the electorate that will, automatically. It is going to have to be considerably worse before Dems abandon him in favor of a Republican. God only knows what it would take to get the press to abandon him. Child molestation might do it.
sycophant noun
a self-seeking, servile flatterer; fawning parasite. Examples - CNN, WaPost, NYT
The most ridiculous thing is that which no one brings up. Regardless of his politics, why would anyone want a 2 year freshman Senator as President? IMO, that is what he should be pounded on, relentlessly.
