WASHINGTON, Jan. 4, 2007 North Korea appears to have made preparations for another nuclear test, according to U.S. defense officials.
"We think they've put everything in place to conduct a test without any notice or warning," a senior U.S. defense official tells ABC News.
For more on this story, watch "World News."
The official cautions that the intelligence is inconclusive on whether North Korea will actually go ahead with another test, but said the preparations are similar to steps taken by Pyongyang before it shocked the world by conducting its first nuclear test on Oct. 9.

Kim is merely celebrating his victory in the recent US elections.
What? Again?
Pelosi's fault.
Calling Bill Richardson, Calling Bill Richardson....your buddy Lil Kim needs your personal attention, STAT!
Look for the Dems in Congress to cut CIA funding for long range espionage and remote sensing as a response.
Let me ask this question: Who cares? Who cares how many times Kim blows up his pitiful stockpile of nuclear weapons? He is not going to invade the South. Therefore our interest in the region is minimal, so long as Kim stays in his own country.
I would be in favor of regime change over the long term, but the fact is that South Korea, China, Japan and Russia are all against it. They don't care about the North Korean people especially. They want the status quo to continue, and if a few hundred thousand North Koreans die of starvation, that is fine with SK, China, Japan and Russia so long as it doesn't inconvenience them.
So maybe it is time to bring our troops home and declare ourseleves free of the region, so long as Kim does not invade the South.
Kim is demonstrating his wares for his hard-currency customers in the middle east.
Which is why we care.
I would like to see Kim drop through a trapdoor, but I doubt he weighs enough to cause any harm to himself.
I'm so ronery!
Probably a pretty good ascertation there Texan.
N.Korea needs hard currency and this is about all they have to offer.
Awww....Kimmie hasn't been getting any attention lately....
I hope he will talk to us and sign a piece of paper to promise to not test nuclear weapons, unless we get him mad...
bttt
We should demonstrate a dependable, working, warhead delivery system for Mr. Kim.
Well it appears that their program needs more testing. The first one was a dud.
I agree, we should care about that. But dealing with that doesn't necessitate 30,000 troops on our border. Their services could be better rendered in Iraq.

Commitments to allies (SK) must be honored.
Plus, SK is also an alternative base to Okinawa to reach other nearby locations.
Maybe this one will actually work.
