Ellison, Klobuchar sworn in (Minnesota Politics PING)
Minneapolis StarTribune (aka The Red Star) ^ | 1/04/07 | Kevin Diaz - Staff Reporter

Keith Ellison, the first Muslim elected to Congress, was sworn in this afternoon, holding his left hand on a leather-bound volume of a Qur'an that was once owned by Thomas Jefferson.

In a day of firsts, Ellison was sworn in by Nancy Pelosi of California, the first woman House speaker.

Ellison held his right hand in the air, placed his left hand on two brown leather-bound volumes of the Qur'an, which were held aloft by his wife, Kim. The historic moment was played out in wood-paneled chamber of the Capitol before hundreds of journalists from around the world, including Al Jazeera. Moments earlier, the 110th Congress was sworn in en masse on the House floor, where Ellison shook hands with Rep. Virgil Goode, R-Va., who had criticized Ellison for using the Qur'an.

Ellison introduced his wife and four children to the international press corps and said, "We're here to work for the American people."

Of course, the TV and print media in the Twin Cities never took to questioning her - or Keith "Jihad" Ellison - about too much of anything.

The Star and Sickle understands that too much questioning can increase the likelihood of a slip of the tongue and expose the truth of the true agenda of the DFL and create irreversible damage to the cause.

Frankly, I hope that this guy is a one-term (lack of) wonder. I hope that in the interim, Minnesota's brain unfreezes and they see what they have perpetrated on the rest of the country.

Take this advice everyone...........

"A nation can survive its fools and even the ambitious. But it cannot survive treason from within. An enemy at the gates is less formidable, for he is known and he carries his banners openly against the city.

But the traitor moves among those within the gates freely, his sly whispers rustling through all alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself. For the traitor appears no traitor; he speaks in the accents familiar to his victim, and he wears their face and their garments and he appeals to the baseness that lies deep in the hearts of all men. He rots the soul of a nation; he works secretly and unknown in the night to undermine the pillars of a city; he infects the body politic so that it can no longer resist.

A murderer is less to be feared. The traitor is the plague." - Marcus Tullius Cicero, Roman Orator --- 106-43 B.C.

I had read that the koran thing would be for the photo op only, not the official oath-taking. Looks like that info was wrong.

No, that information is correct - Ellison, like every Congressman, was sworn in by Speaker Pelosi today en masse on the House floor. The "swearing-in" on the Koran was a photo-op (well, technically TWO photo-ops - according to the AP, Ellison had two pictures taken with different family members).

Here's one picture and its caption from Yahoo! News:

All I know is that it's disgusting to see this happening. This once proud Judeo-Christian nation, which I still love by the way, is heading down the crapper. All we can do is pray for one more season of restraint from God Almighty. If it doesn't happen and we're taken out before the end comes, then so much the better, but people like Pelosi, Ellison, and their ilk are going to try their level-headed best to to further the immorality anti-christian mindset that permeates their party.

From the ridiculous (Ellison, Klobuchar)

to the sublime
Michele Bachmann is the lone new Republican in the state's delegation, campaigning on a platform of conservative fiscal and social positions. ...

My nomination for the "Nothing Story" of the month.

Thgis is a story that gives a certain element a chance to get thoer panties in a bunch, thump thier cheasts and (loudly) proclaim the end of the Republic.
It is a tale
"Told by an idiot, full of sound and fury,
signifying......nothing."

Apparently he wanted to study it to help him understand how to deal with the Barbary Pirates.

I can't find the thread that stated that. The interview I heard with someone from the Library of Congress said that Jefferson had acquired the book back when he was first studying law, well before he was President, apparently as an exercise in comparative law.

Trust me when I tell you this. Amy Klobuchar is an empty skirt.

Interesting that my BIL stated the same thing and he ought to know -- the senator is married to his cousin. She'll go along with whatever is scripted by the Democratic party for her.

Yeah, I noticed this too.

Michele Bachmann was given only brief notice by the Red Star.

She's the first Republican woman elected to Congress from Minnesota - but hey, that's nowhere as newsworthy as an empty skirt being sworn in as a member of the Senate.

The Red Star ripped on Michele Bachmann a lot during the election season and they'll spare no opportunity to rip on her for the next two years.

That's ok. the more they rip her the more her stock will rise. I believe she'll emerge as a good spokeswoman for conservative values.
