Minister for strategic affairs calls on Ban Ki-moon to remove Islamic republic from world body over its repeated threats against Israel

Minister for Strategic Affairs Avigdor Lieberman called on incoming United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon to expel Iran from the world body over its repeated threats against Israel and to impose tough sanctions against it over its refusal to halt nuclear enrichment.

Lieberman sent a letter to the newly appointed UN chief over remarks he made during a recent interview when he said that the resolution of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict will give the international community enough leverage to address Iran's nuclear threat.

Nuclear Program

"Any connection between the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and the Iranian issue is a pretext used by some of the most anti-Semitic elements the world has known since the Nazi ideology and the Holocaust," Lieberman wrote in the letter.

'Ahmadinejad's intentions are clear'

Lieberman said Iranian President Ahmadinejad is bent on wiping out Israel, charging that he had never called for talks between Israel and the Palestinians, neither called on Israel to make territorial concessions in return for peace with its neighbors.

"Ahmadinejad's intentions are clear, and while the free world takes its time, the Iranian president is pressing with his plan to build nuclear weapons. Israel can and will stand alone against Iran, but we shouldn't have to do so. If Iran is allowed to acquire nuclear weapons, the free world will pay a heavy price and Israel will be the first and will pay the heaviest price. But Iran's aggression will not end there," he said.

Lieberman called on Ki-moon to take action before it is too late.

This absolutely should be done - Iran is in direct and appalling violation of the UN Charter.

So did I in my rush to post it! After putting it all on the Post article screen I thought to take a second look and found out my "rush to judgment" was my admiration for Joe Lieberman's loss. It might have given his American persona a boost had he said it?
