Howie column below (about gay marriage vote). Also live thread for today's Howie Carr show.
The Legislature has never bothered listening to a Governor and they aren't about to now unless that Governor says what they tell him to say.

Kris Mineau, left, spokesman for Vote on Marriage, Tom Shields, chairman for Coalition for Marriage and Family, and Sen. Phil Travis of Rehoboth celebrate yesterday the Legislatures vote to advance a ballot initiative that would ban gay marriage.
Deval sticks his nose in, but cant close deal
By Howie Carr
Poor Arline Isaacson - her Mass. Teachers Association dumps all that money into the campaign of Gov.-elect Deval Patrick, so she calls in a marker on the only thing she really cares about, gay marriage. But then Deval cant twist enough arms to kill the bill.
Three million bucks just doesnt buy what it used to, does it, Arline?
So the proposed 2008 ballot question to ban gay marriage remains alive. But Arline is still a heavy favorite to win in the end. Shes doing it, after all, for the children.
The good news is, everyones life and liberty is safe - the Legislature adjourned last night.
The bad news, theyre coming back to the State House this morning to be sworn in for the next session. And the terrain continues to shift in favor of the gay lobby. Last night, Kris Mineau of the Massachusetts Family Institute was asked which pols played the most important roles in fending off the homosexual lobby.
There was Gov. Mitt Romney, he said, who changed the whole dynamic when he filed the lawsuit against the Legislature.
This, of course, is Mitts last full day as governor.
And Senate President Travaglini ran a tight ship, he didnt allow for a lot of procedural maneuvers. He made it happen.
Everybody thinks the next thing Trav will make happen is his own disappearance from the Legislature, probably in the spring.
And, of course, the two reps, Phil Travis and Emile Goguen.
Both of whose final terms expired at midnight.
The fact is, the gays just got greedy yesterday. They could have played by the rules and won. Hell, they probably still will. The high-water mark for the meanspirited let-the-people-decide crowd was 62 votes. And several of the pro-family reps besides Travis and Goguen are history. Farewell, Marie Parente.
But they couldnt wait. Theyre just too afraid of putting gay marriage to a vote. Finally, even Isaacson admits what we all know - that it would be voted down here, just as it has been everywhere else.
So Deval Patrick took time out from baking his inaugural chocolate chip cookies to trudge up to the State House to dangle a few carrots. Do you suppose that someone from, say, Essex County was promised, say, the job of veterans commissioner in return for changing his vote?
It was a rather unseemly way for Deval to begin his inaugural week, which is shaping up as even longer than Gerald Fords funeral. But what choice did he have? He owes Arline Isaacson big time, and hes a bit strapped in the local-aid department, plus, didnt he promise to reduce property taxes rather than stand by while the teachers turn every municipality in the commonwealth into Chelsea?
But is it really a good move to urge the legislators not to worry about breaking the law? Thats just the kind of encouragement they dont need, Deval.
Breaking the law is a suggestion that will win friends and influence people on Beacon Hill. Break the law? Yes we can.
Next, Deval, you can lead the solons in a chant.
Toga, Toga, TOGA!
Deval shrugged and said that defying the law was simply a matter of conscience. Yeah, right. By one vote, the SJC invents a right to gay marriage that nobody anywhere had ever heard of before, and then, to stop the people from exercising their constitutional rights to do something about this radical reordering of society, Deval decides its OK to shred a part of the state constitution that dates back to 1918.
The sky isnt falling, Deval said.
No, it isnt. Not today. No thanks to you, Deval.
And by the way, did you notice something missing in this debate? Namely, live TV coverage. Yes, at a very fortuitous moment, the Legislature has vanished from Channel 44. Now theyre on the Internet, and I dont mean YouTube, or MySpace. Theyre tucked away on a government site, never to be seen again.
Nice win, all you soon-to-be-former pols. For Deval and Arline, the question is, can we stick it to the people at the next ConCon? The answer is, Yes we can.
The Legislature has never bothered listening to a Governor and they aren't about to now unless that Governor says what they tell him to say.
Agreed.Jealousy runs deep wiht those idiots
They've never listened to the voters either. Even if this does get through and the voters vote in favor of protecting marriage, I lived in Mass. too long to think it will actually be implemented. The Legislature "knows better" than the voters.
by the way I noticed last night that RKO ran Savage at 7 pm rather than 10 even though there was NO late Celtics game...
they followed it with Jerry Doyle (whom they run on Sat.
nights; from same syndicator as Savage & Laura Ingraham)
Yet today they ran a promo saying Savage is on at 10?
(This means Feinburg might get that morning slot. BUT
note no changes yet on 'RKO site...We still don't know
if Tom Finneran--no joke--may get that morning slot.
Depends on how his trial goes?)
meanwhile WTKK shuffles its lineup: chops an hour from
both Imus and Barnicle (see sep. thread about their joking about Republicans on the gallows), moves Graham to mornings and takes an hour from his show; expands Eagan and Braude
to 3 hours opp. Rush. Severin stays at same slot, then
O'Reilly, Ingraham, a rebroadcast of Barnicle, and then
John and Jeff.
Me, the only two shows I really listen to are Howie and
Ingraham but I've been known to catch some others.
This means Feinburg might get that morning slot. BUT
note no changes yet on 'RKO site...
Heard a bumper on RKO yesterday that said Feinburg in the AM
Works for me.Has the honeymoon ended before it started for"Devil".I think he thinks whatever he says EVERYONE should consider as Scripture. Not so fast"Devil".His little speech and lobbying at the State House for the anti- gay marriage initiative went unheeded.Whoops!
Many thanks for posting this Howie Carr column which I believe is hard to get via Herald on-line.
Anyways... The sub text I get here is that Deval is gay. Might that be the case?

Worse.He's a flaming moonbat!
oh good...well, no changes to site yet. To be honest
WRKO is now focusing on their Sox games (though they
will leave afternoon games and Wed. nights to WEEI).
They're playing promos for that like crazy. The syndicated
talk shows are merely timefillers for those nights when
there's no Sox or Celtics game at or after 7 pm...
He is married. And yes, to a woman...
> we must refer to our incoming governor as "Devil"...
RR asked yesterday about what nickname the new Gov should be dubbed with. How about "Plastic?" Deval Plastic, Governor Plastic. The guy can assume any shape, he's as genuine as astroturf, and he's going to stake his socialist "vision" with the state's plastic charge card while we get stuck with the bill.
As glad as I am that the marriage amendment has leapt this hurdle, I am delighted that Deval Plastic suffered a stunning defeat in telling the legislature what to do...and he isn't even Governor yet!
Which proves Jack! I know many gays, men AND women, who are/were married and have children with their spouses but still have their gay lifestyles "under cover"...
Egan and Braude for 3 hours? Yikes listening to her is a tough assignment. For a flaming liberal Braude is actually entertaining. Now, I just wish they would replace John and Jeff with just about anyone else.
Braude and Severin (Graham, too) do some commercials that run on WTKK. I can take Braude's voice over Jay's, at least.
Wasn't Braude part of the "Tax Equity Alliance of Mass."?
I think Jerry W. or Howie once called that group the
Tax Escalation Alliance. My own nickname, spoofing the name
of Barbara Anderson's group: Citizens For UN-limited taxation!
