Williams' murder a cowardly gun crime (barf alert)

In memory of Darrent Williams, the Broncos player killed Monday, Denver should close ranks against the gun culture that endangers the city's streets.

The dawn of the new year should be a time of renewed optimism and fresh starts. Instead, Denver is reeling with sadness over a senseless tragedy.

If the Denver Broncos are the heart of the city, as one player said recently, then that heart is breaking over the shooting death of 24-year-old cornerback Darrent Williams. He was gunned down in the middle of the night on Jan. 1 when someone pulled alongside his rented Hummer limo and strafed it with gunfire. Williams had just left a birthday party for Denver Nugget Kenyon Martin at Shelter, a nightclub on Broadway. Two others in the limo also were injured.

why is this a tragedy...they are crying all over the news and radio here in Denver....

Lets see..what kind of music were they playing at the party...The Temptations..classical...Pat boone...or Gangster Rap....

Did they live the lifestyle of the Gangster lifestyle...

Were they playing Rap so loud that the girl had to go to the floor to hear her cell phone..which saved her life...

now if this was a white couple..the gangs would be high fiveing...its sick ..but its true..it would have been a show of manliness...to "pop" one off...

What will WE do..nothing..we are to PC..the ACLU will fight any law. How about uniforms in school...discipline...

This happened in a very nice area of Denver. Not where you expect such a shooting to occur.

Nice area..yes..but still when you play gangster rap..you draw the crowd...it just shows that the gangs are expanding..the Hood is your hood...when your white son or daughter listens to the gangster rap..they just brought the gangs into your house...I have never understood why suburban white kids listen to rap and idolize the lifestyle...but they do in a big way...

Denver's Mayor saw no reason to change the status of Denver as a sanctuary city.....meaning illegals are free as a bird here!

That is, until a police officer was murdered by an illegal who escaped to Mexico. That illegal had also been employed in one of Hickenlooper's restaurants, despite having an arrest record.

Hickenlooser also wanted Coors Field to be used by the homeless in the off season.

These bleeding heart liberals are destroying the major cities in our country and never see the error of their ways.

The more "civilized" society becomes, the more it seeks to dissociate itself from the consequences of its actions that produce bad results.

Warfare has been with us since the earliest tribes sought to usurp their neighbors' bountiful resourses, usually after exhausting their own, and, in all that time, the more inventive among the members have worked to design weapons that separate the wielder from the wounded.

From spears to stones to boiling oil to bows and arrows and finally to ballistic weapons and ICBMs, the goal has always been to put more distance between the assailant and his bloody enemy.

Gangs, in our modern society, take the place of tribes in insular, ancient societies whose knowledge of rivals was limited by their lack of imagination and mobility.

Drive through any urban neighborhood and you will see the tags on every corner, often crossed out and reclaimed on a daily basis; there is no reason to it just primitive dominant instincts, the lowest order of motive known.

Of course they'll use guns first as long as there is one gun available, and if or when the last gun has been confiscated, they will make their own or resort back through the list like a trip back in time until they arrive back where the tribes all began and even spears will be laid down and the warriors will revert to hand-to-hand combat with strangling and clubbing being the methods of choice.

Take away all the tools, and all you have left is the naked savage.
