:::FreeRepublic's Threat Matrix:::
Fighting Jihad: Strategic Thinking Needed
-Full Story-

The United States of America has some of the smartest leaders in government, military, and business in the world. Yet the American government has failed to collectively use this formidable brain-power 5+ years after the attack by Jihadists on the American homeland to develop a truly strategic plan to fight the global threat of Jihad and Islamist extremism. In one of the most complex wars in American history, rather than starting with holistic, big-picture thinking towards the challenges and prioritizing resources and actions accordingly, America has spent much of the past five years after 9/11 in reactive and bureaucratic churning.

I am trying to picture how large a 500 lb. propane tank would be...and since there was a report of some type of leak at a "gas" station...could it be possible that when the fire-truck pulled up...just the combustion from the trucks engine could have ignited the gas?! I am also trying to think if propane gas has an odor...I know that a certain chemical is put into natural gas to give it an odor..but I can't recall if propane even has an odor. Just a really horrific situation. Continued prayers for the victims and their families.

Driver Who Picked Up Terrorist Considered Running Him Over

Nir Hasson - Ha'aretz:

Yossi Voltinsky, the man who drove the suicide bomber in Monday's attack in Eilat, was "99 percent sure" his passenger was a suicide bomber. He considered crashing his car or running over the man but did not "because of the 1 percent chance that maybe he was innocent, maybe a crazy, how would I be able to live with that?" Voltinsky, a lieutenant colonel in the IDF reserves, said, "As soon as I looked at him in the rearview mirror, I saw that something was wrong - he wore a windbreaker zipped to the neck, with a big backpack strapped on. He kept one hand in his pocket, his eyes darted around, he was very nervous. He acted very unnaturally. I asked him where he was headed, he didn't answer, just motioned for me to keep going. I asked, 'Where are you from?' He didn't answer. I realized at that point I was transporting a hostile person, a terrorist or a robber."
"I couldn't drive to the police station because it's inside the city, and I didn't want to go to a checkpoint because I knew that as soon as he saw soldiers, he'd blow up," Voltinsky said. He let the man out at the outskirts of the city and called the police.

""Religion of Peace": Muslim Indicted, Another Guilty for Death Threats Against Schlussel"

By Debbie Schlussel

COLUMN SNIPPET: "As readers of this site know, among the vast pinata of hate-mail I get, I have received death threats from four diverse members of the "Religion of Peace," threatening to murder me and my family members, after raping and torturing me. And I take them very seriously.

Last week, one of them--Robert Mustaq John--pled guilty in the U.S. District for the Eastern District of New York, and the previous week, another--Wasil Burki--was indicted in U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan. I've posted the court documents associated with both, herein, as well as a reposting of their death threats."

Propane: 500 lb = 125 gallon but tanks are only filled to 80% capacity so a 500 lb tank really only holds 100 gallons maximum. The tank is approximately 36 inches in diameter and 4 feet long.

Hope that helps.

Prayers for Debbie's safety. How frightening this must be. She is a very brave woman.

Sorry, I hit post before I finished my thought :-)

I'm wondering if the writer of the article meant a 500 gallon tank as that is how it is usually referenced, even by the propane companies. 500 pound would be odd.

We used to have 2 tanks on our property, one a 500 gallon and a 1000 gallon. the 500 gallon was approximately (I'm going on memory) 10 foot long, 3 feet diameter.

Propane does have a odor. I would think, and I'm no propane expert, that if there was a leak and it had filled up a room, it wouldn't take much of a spark to ignite the whole thing, unfortunately. Truly a sad event for all involved.

It is frightening, but if left unreported -- that would have been more frightening.

Wow, that was really disturbing. I'm glad Debbie Schlussel is fighting back and justice is on her side.

Yep.
One must report these incidents whenever they occur AND follow through.
In my opinion, Schlussel is doing the right thing.
