:::FreeRepublic's Threat Matrix:::
Fighting Jihad: Strategic Thinking Needed
-Full Story-

The United States of America has some of the smartest leaders in government, military, and business in the world. Yet the American government has failed to collectively use this formidable brain-power 5+ years after the attack by Jihadists on the American homeland to develop a truly strategic plan to fight the global threat of Jihad and Islamist extremism. In one of the most complex wars in American history, rather than starting with holistic, big-picture thinking towards the challenges and prioritizing resources and actions accordingly, America has spent much of the past five years after 9/11 in reactive and bureaucratic churning.

I didn't know anything about Germans in Iraq either.
Combine the Haganah article, Hamburg cell history, Germany's UN collaboration against supporting the war, oil for food scandal...and it makes for some interesting reading.

Hi Donna.
All is very well.
My diet this year is no desserts.
(I'll be off this one by Valentine's Day, I'm sure.)

How are you?

I'm good. :)

I gave up caffeine and am trying a very low carb and no sugar foods to pinpoint an allergy or food intolerance of some sort. I love eating organic anyway. That's the easy part. The difficult part was giving up sugar in my now-decaffeinated coffee. I drank it black for a few weeks at first and then a doc recommended switching to the natural herb sweetner Stevia. Stevia lasted 3 days with me. Stevia has a horrible aftertaste. It's cane sugar for me or no sugar at all.

If I was you I would definitely go off any diet for 2/14. Valentines's Day wouldn't be Valentine's Day without sweets.

Yep, I hear you...I hate sugar substitutes, so I am drinking my coffee black, too. It's ok I guess. Better than the alternative.

You are so right....Valentine's Day is not a diet day.

Smiling at you!

"Webb Of Venom"
By Ben Shapiro
Thursday, January 25, 2007

COMMENTARY: "President Bush's State of the Union Address was no barnburner. The president was serious and thoughtful, and his speech offered little in the way of rhetorical fireworks.

But if President Bush's speech was unexciting, Sen. Jim Webb's, D-Virginia, purported rebuttal was disastrous. Webb decisively demonstrated why Democrats cannot be given charge of America's foreign policy."

"US Should Set Up National Security Court to Deal With Terrorists, Say Analysts"
By Monisha Bansal
CNSNews.com Staff Writer
January 25, 2007

ARTICLE SNIPPET: "(CNSNews.com) - The United States should establish a National Security Court designed to handle terrorism cases fairly but also in a way that does not jeopardize public safety, a legal expert argued Wednesday.

Andrew McCarthy, director of the Center for Law and Counterterrorism at the Foundation for Defense of Democracies, told a press conference in Washington D.C., that terrorist detainees being held by the U.S. military are not entitled to the same protections as American citizens."

Fifth Anniversary of USA Freedom Corps, 2007
A Proclamation by the President of the United States of America

USA Freedom Corps

The great strength of our Nation is found in the heroic kindness, courage, and self-sacrifice of the American people. Every day, individuals show the good heart of our country by volunteering to help make someone's life better. Since 2002, the USA Freedom Corps has provided access to volunteer opportunities for millions of Americans. On the fifth anniversary of the USA Freedom Corps, we honor volunteers who give their time and talents to make a difference in the lives of others, and we recognize that helping those in need makes America a more hopeful country.

The USA Freedom Corps was created to encourage Americans to answer the call to serve a cause greater than themselves. By matching willing volunteers with opportunities in their communities, the USA Freedom Corps brings Americans together to mentor children, assist the elderly, clean up neighborhoods, and perform countless acts of generosity. The USA Freedom Corps has helped support national service programs such as AmeriCorps, Citizen Corps, Peace Corps, and Senior Corps. Through programs like these, volunteers all across the country bring comfort and kindness to people at home and abroad.

Through the USA Freedom Corps website at volunteer.gov, all Americans can find ways to serve in our country's armies of compassion. By answering the universal call to help a neighbor, individual Americans can transform towns and cities into more caring communities and neighborhoods and make America a better place.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, GEORGE W. BUSH, President of the United States of America, by virtue of the authority vested in me by the Constitution and laws of the United States, do hereby proclaim January 29, 2007, as the Fifth Anniversary of the USA Freedom Corps. I call upon the citizens of this great country to find ways to volunteer and help their fellow Americans. I commend the efforts of the USA Freedom Corps and all those who have already answered the call to serve, and I encourage all Americans to give of their time, energy, and talents to make America even stronger.

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand this twenty-fifth day of January, in the year of our Lord two thousand seven, and of the Independence of the United States of America the two hundred and thirty-first.

GEORGE W. BUSH

"BREAKING NEWS -- Iran Set to Try Space Launch"
By Craig Covault/Aviation Week & Space Technology

ARTICLE SNIPPET: "Iran has converted its most powerful ballistic missile into a satellite launch vehicle. The 30-ton rocket could also be a wolf in sheep's clothing for testing longer-range missile strike technologies, Aviation Week & Space Technology magazine reports in its Jan. 29 issue."

"Report: Iran Preparing to Put Satellite in Orbit"
Friday, January 26, 2007

ARTICLE SNIPPET: "The reported Iranian space launcher, which U.S. intelligence agencies believe to be a derivation of the Shahab 3 ballistic missile, has recently been assembled and "will liftoff soon" with a satellite, according to Iranian officials.

Western officials fear that the Iranian space vehicle could lead to upgrades in Iran's missile technology, eventually leading to an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) with a range capable of reaching Europe, Russia, China and India, the magazine reports.

"A reconnaissance satellite of reasonable performance should weigh about 300 kilograms [660 lb.]," says Uzi Rubin, the former head of the Israel Missile Defense Organization, in a report for The Jerusalem Center for Public Affairs. "Once Iran learns how to put 300 kilograms into earth orbit, it could adapt the satellite launcher into an ICBM that could drop more than 300 kilograms anywhere in the world.""
