:::FreeRepublic's Threat Matrix:::
Fighting Jihad: Strategic Thinking Needed
-Full Story-

The United States of America has some of the smartest leaders in government, military, and business in the world. Yet the American government has failed to collectively use this formidable brain-power 5+ years after the attack by Jihadists on the American homeland to develop a truly strategic plan to fight the global threat of Jihad and Islamist extremism. In one of the most complex wars in American history, rather than starting with holistic, big-picture thinking towards the challenges and prioritizing resources and actions accordingly, America has spent much of the past five years after 9/11 in reactive and bureaucratic churning.

"Woman Disrupted United Flight to San Francisco"

Henry K. Lee
The San Francisco Chronicle

ARTICLE SNIPPET: "A woman was charged in federal court Monday for allegedly making statements about a hijacking, spitting at flight attendants and passengers and trying to open a cabin door while on board a United Airlines flight from Boston to San Francisco.

While on board Flight 179 on Sunday, Erin Callahan Lambert, 28, who lives in the Bay Area, got on her cell phone, telling flight attendants, "I'm calling 911 because the plane is being hijacked," FBI Special Agent Brian Gilhooly wrote in an affidavit filed in U.S. District Court in San Francisco."

The Terror-Free Oil station in west Omaha will sell gas from oil companies that do not do business in the Middle East

If they do business in Venezuela then they may as well do it with Iran.

"Kulula passenger arrested for bomb threat"

Cape Town, South Africa

24 January 2007 07:06

ARICLE SNIPPET: "A 26-year-old man was arrested at Cape Town airport on Tuesday evening for saying he had a bomb in a box, police said.

"He had to put a box he was carrying on the X-ray machine and it detected an unusual item," said national police spokesperson Senior Superintendent Vish Naidoo.

"When they asked him what it was, he said it was a bomb. It was in fact a bathroom contraption."

Naidoo warned members of the public not to make such statements, even if it was meant as a joke.

"We have previously warned people, even if it's a joke, it's a criminal offence. This must serve as a warning to other people not to do this."

The man was allowed to board the flight and Airports Company South Africa officials alerted the pilot of Kulula flight MN 106 as he was reversing his Boeing 737 400 out of the parking bay shortly after 6pm.

Comair spokesperson Glenda Zvenyika said: "He returned to base and the man was handed over to the SAPS."

Nobody was injured in the incident. There were 103 passengers and six crew on board. The flight left for Johannesburg an hour later."

THREE TAZEWELL COUNTY DEFENDANTS PLEAD GUILTY TO STEALING A HALF TON OF EXPLOSIVES FROM NEW PRISON WORK SITE IN TAZEWELL COUNTY, VIRGINIA

United States Attorney John L. Brownlee announced today that Derick R. Williams, age 25, Lacy S. Milam, age 21, and Angela R. Dameron, age 29, all of Bluefield, Virginia, pleaded guilty to charges related to the theft of explosives from a prison construction site in Tazewell County.

The pleas were entered in United States District Court in Abingdon before Judge James P. Jones.

Williams and Milam pleaded guilty to the theft of approximately 1000 lbs. of explosives from a new prison work site located in Tazewell County; theft of explosives from a federal explosives permittee; and possession of explosives by an person using and addicted to illegal drugs.

Dameron pleaded guilty to making a false statement to law enforcement officials.

The maximum penalty faced by Williams and Milam is 30 years in prison and/or a fine of $750,000.00 thousand dollars. Dameron faces a maximum penalty of 5 years in prison and/or a fine of $250,000.00.

All three defendants will be sentenced April 12, 2007.

According to evidence presented by Special Assistant United States Attorney Dennis Lee, late on the night of September 7, 2006, Williams and Milam used equipment from the worksite of Bizzack, Inc., a company contracted to construct a road giving access to the new Pocahontas prison site, to break into a trailer containing explosives, including ANFO. ANFO is similar to the explosive mixture used in the Oklahoma City bombing.

The pair was first identified when a tip came into law enforcement indicating that Dameron was trying to sell the explosives. A search warrant was executed on September 23, 2006, on the property on which Williams and Dameron resided and approximately 500 lbs. of explosives were recovered buried in a barn. The remaining 500 lbs. was located several days later having been scattered in a remote area. A Haz-Mat team was called to remove the explosive materials.

The investigation of the case was conducted by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, the Tazewell County Sheriff's Office, the Bluefield Virginia Police Department, the Virginia State Police and the Federal Bureau of Investigations. Special Assistant United States Attorney Dennis Lee is prosecuting the case.

"To Serve Man"
By Julia Gorin
FrontPageMagazine.com | January 24, 2007

ARTICLE SNIPPET: "In a recent piece by Rabbi Avi Shafran, the rabbi asks, “You suddenly begin noticing signs bearing Arabic script in buses. What do you do?”

Well, what bus riders in Richmond, Virginia did was call the local Transit Authority to find out what it might know about the signs, which had been turning up on buses and the walls of local universities.

The Associated Press and other media outlets subtly scoffed at the concerned citizens, explaining that the Arabic phrases were in fact innocuous — translating as things like “paper or plastic?” or “paper, scissors, rock” or “I’m a little teapot.” Those translations in fact appeared at the bottom of the signs, along with admonishments like “Misunderstanding can make anything scary” or “What did you think it said?”

The provocative ads were the work of the Virginia Interfaith Center, which placed them in public venues as part of an effort to change the fact that, as the center’s executive director put it, “as soon as people see Arabic, they immediately make an association with terrorism.”

Imagine German writing turning up on public buses and university walls in 1942, and the citizenry being expected to not bat an eyelash, with the Germans and the media, who do the enemy’s bidding, admonishing us, “What did you think it said?”"

ARTICLE SNIPPET: "Just as the Communists did, Muslims pretend to want to be participants in our system, then use our democratic ways to swallow us up."

Anti-Trafficking Specialist Calls Freeing 102 Sudanese Slaves ’An Excellent Example to all Abolitionists’

By Michael Ireland
Chief Correspondent, ASSIST News Service

AWEIL, SOUTHERN SUDAN (ANS) -- More than 100 Black African slaves have been liberated from Baggara Arab masters and returned to their homeland in Southern Sudan in an action supported by Christian Solidarity International (CSI).

"Most of the liberated slaves -- mainly boys and young men -- had been captured by Sudanese government-sponsored Arab militias during two decades of civil war, pitting the Arab-Muslim dominated Government of Sudan against the predominantly Black African Sudan People’s Liberation Front (SPLA)," says a media release obtained by ANS.

The release states: "Interviews reveal a strong pattern of physical and psychological abuse. The overwhelming majority of the liberated slaves had been subjected to beatings, racial and religious insults, forced labor and denial of the freedom to practice any religion other than Islam. Most of the girls and women had been subjected to sexual abuse."

Among the slaves were:

16-year-old Agor Deng: Agor was repeatedly raped by her master, Adam Abakir and his associates. Adam Abakir and his wife excised her finger nails with a knife after she failed to obey an order to grind grain. They also forced her, using death threats, to pray like a Muslim.

30-year-old Garang Akot Wiir: Garang’s right arm and leg were partially paralyzed after having been beaten and tied up tightly for 24 hours as punishment for attempting to escape. He was renamed Abdelrazik Ezzadin by his master.

45-year-old Achol Loc Wiel: Achol was shot in her leg during a slave raid. She also lost her husband and three children during the slave raid and forced march to Northern Sudan. Achol was gang raped by her master’s friends. She was also forced to abandon the practice of her Christian faith and pray like a Muslim.

The liberation and documentation of the 102 slaves was the result of cooperation between Arab-Dinka Peace Committees, the civil authorities in Aweil State, local churches and CSI.

According to the media release, the Sudanese Episcopalian priest, Rev. Tito Athian -- a longstanding local CSI partner -- expressed joy at the liberation and repatriation of the slaves, stating: "Thank you for helping bring back our people from slavery. Now they are free to hear the Good News of Jesus Christ and choose their own religion."

After witnessing several CSI slave liberation actions, including last week’s, anti-trafficking consultant and author of The Jubilee Prophecy, Aaron Cohen, said: "I have seen first hand, in 23 countries, the positive changes good programs can have in the lives of enslaved people. CSI has created in Sudan a sustainable and effective program which has liberated thousands of slaves, inspired anti-trafficking legislation, and brought hope to people in bondage. CSI’s pioneering work in Sudan is an excellent example to all abolitionists."

CSI has been in the forefront of the campaign to eradicate slavery in Sudan since 1995, and is commemorating this year the 30th anniversary of its foundation and the 200th anniversary of the abolition of the British slave trade.
