The United States of America has some of the smartest leaders in government, military, and business in the world. Yet the American government has failed to collectively use this formidable brain-power 5+ years after the attack by Jihadists on the American homeland to develop a truly strategic plan to fight the global threat of Jihad and Islamist extremism. In one of the most complex wars in American history, rather than starting with holistic, big-picture thinking towards the challenges and prioritizing resources and actions accordingly, America has spent much of the past five years after 9/11 in reactive and bureaucratic churning.

"Spanish gangs clash with police"

ARTICLE SNIPPET: "BBC: Gangs of youths have clashed with police in Spain's Basque country, throwing bottles and stones.

Police fired tear gas and rubber bullets and made one arrest during the clashes in the northern town of Mungia.

It came two days after Spain's highest court ruled that three outlawed Basque youth organisations should be re-defined as terrorist organisations.

The court said it was because of their links to the armed Basque separatist group Eta."

"IDF builds fake Muslim city to prepare for war"

ARTICLE SNIPPET: "The IDF unveiled an Urban Warfare Training Center (UTC) on Monday in a mock city that simulates an Arab town, four months after the second Lebanon war ended.

The unit's commanders firmly stated that the city was planned eight years ago and that construction began a year ago. They added that the current pace of the training was two battalions each week.

The mock city is located in the southern Tze'elim military base. From a distance, it looks like any Arab urban center.

Around 500 structures were built for a maximum capacity of 5,000 residents. "Just like in every real city we built mosques, a Casba and even a refugee camp," said Lt.-Col Arik Moreh, the second in command of the Tactical Training City (TTC), part of the UTC, following a large urban warfare training exercise Monday morning.

Arab music was played in the background throughout the entire exercise, to get everyone in the mood.

In the center some of the houses' walls have holes, an imitation of those soldiers leave behind after breaking into houses and taking them over."

Report: Russia completes Iran missile deliveries

Russia has completed a contract to deliver its TOR-M1 anti-aircraft missile systems to Iran, Itar-Tass news agency quoted Sergei Chemezov, head of state arms exporter Rosoboronexport as saying on Tuesday.

"(Russia) fully completed delivery to Iran of the TOR-M1 missile complexes at the end of December 2006," Tass quoted Chemezov as saying. The deal to supply the missiles has angered the United States and Israel. (Reuters)

ARTICLE SNIPPET: "Sources tell ABC News that the plot may have involved moving between 10 and 20 suspects believed to be affiliated with al Qaeda in Iraq into the United States with student visas -- the same method used by the 19 al Qaeda terrorists who struck American targets on Sept. 11.

U.S. officials now require universities to closely track foreign nationals who use student visas to study in the United States. University officials must report international students who fail to arrive on campus or miss class regularly.

In August, the FBI and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement alerted intelligence agencies and state and local law enforcement about 11 Egyptian students who had failed to report to their classes at Montana State University. The students were ultimately apprehended.

Still, despite the heightened precautions, some security analysts fear that skilled terrorists -- handpicked because of their clean records and because they are carefully trained -- could still slip through an academic setting."

Two held in Halifax terror raid

Two men have been arrested under terrorism laws in West Yorkshire, police have confirmed.
The men, aged 25 and 29, were held in Halifax at about 0600 GMT on suspicion of the commission, preparation or instigation of acts of terrorism.

They were arrested at separate houses in the town. Officers are searching both premises as well as two others in the area and a flat in north London.

They are in custody and will be brought to a London police station later.

A Scotland Yard spokeswoman said: "At approx 6am today in an intelligence-led operation two men were arrested in West Yorkshire under the Terrorism Act 2000.

"They were arrested by officers from the MPS Counter Terrorism Command supported by officers from West Yorkshire Police.

"As part of the same operation, officers from the Counter Terrorism Command today began searching a flat in north London. This search continues."

A spokesman for the West Yorkshire force confirmed that four addresses in the Halifax area were being searched following the arrests.

He stressed the operation was being led by the Metropolitan Police, but West Yorkshire officers would be keeping local people informed.

"High-visibility police will continue to patrol to offer support and reassurance in each of the areas affected," he said.

Hezbollah-Led Protesters Begin Strike To Topple Lebanese Govt.

(RTTNews) - Hezbollah-led opposition demonstrators have blocked roads with car tires around the Lebanese capital of Beirut and surrounding regions of Lebanon on Tuesday to enforce a general strike called by Hassan Nasrallah in an effort to topple Prime Minister Fuad Saniora's government. Saniora and his pro-government supporters have urged all Lebanese to ignore the call.

Hezbollah has been demanding the formation of a national unity government where it would have enough strength to carry a veto. Since December 1, they have been besieging the main government building in Beirut.

Opposition activists burnt tires and piled up rocks and stones on major highways north, south and east of the city as well as a ring road around downtown Beirut. Soldiers and firefighters were called in to remove the blockades.

Canadian cocaine trafficker who concealed drugs in fuel tank convicted





SEATTLE - A Canadian citizen who attempted to smuggle more than 250 pounds of cocaine into Canada from the United States was convicted by a jury today in U.S. District Court. U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) assisted Customs and Border Protection (CBP) in the investigation that led to the conviction.

Steve Czinege, 40, of Surrey, British Columbia, attempted to enter Canada at the Lynden Port of Entry February 27, 2006. He told CBP officers his tractor trailer rig was empty and that he was picking up a load in Canada.

However, during the interview, a CBP officer noticed that the truck's fuel tanks had been altered. A subsequent inspection of the tanks revealed three duffel bags packed with more than 250 pounds of cocaine with an estimated wholesale value of $1.8 million.

Czinege claimed in court that he had been threatened and forced to transport the cocaine because of an earlier failed marijuana smuggling attempt that ended with the seizure of his truck and 300 pounds of marijuana. The jury rejected Czinege's defense and found him guilty.

“Drug smuggling of any kind is a serious crime,” said Leigh Winchell, special agent in charge for the ICE office of investigations in Seattle. “ICE, working closely with CBP, will use its resources to curtail this type of activity so justice can be served.”

Because he was transporting such a large quantity of cocaine, Czinege faces a mandatory minimum sentence of ten years in prison when he is formally sentenced May 7, 2007.

Indian national sentenced on immigration fraud charges; ordered to forfeit over $5.7 million and luxury cars





NEWARK - An Indian national was sentenced today to 20 months in federal prison for immigration fraud for fraudulently assisting hundreds of immigrant aliens to live and work illegally in New Jersey and elsewhere in the United States, U.S. Attorney Christopher Christie announced.

U.S. District Court Judge Dickinson R. Debevoise also ordered Narendra Mandalapa a/k/a "Ramesh Dashrth,” Mandalapa, 36, to forfeit more than $5.7 million and two late model luxury cars which represented proceeds of his crimes. Judge Debevoise fined Mandalapa $25,000.

Mandalapa was the owner and president of Cybersoftec, Inc., a business consulting company that was based in Edison during 2004 and 2005. Mandalapa was arrested on Nov. 3, 2005 on a criminal Complaint and has been in custody since then.

“This sentence proves that America's immigration system is not something criminals like Mandalapa can exploit for profit without significant consequences,” said Thomas E. Manifase, deputy special agent in charge of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement's (ICE) Newark office. "Benefit, identity and document fraud pose a clear national security concern that we take very seriously.”
