On this "National Day of Mourning throughout the United States," President and Mrs. Bush attended the funeral service for former President Gerald Ford at the National Episcopal Cathedral in DC today. President Bush was among those asked to eulogize (text and webcast at this link) his predecessor.
Henry Kissinger's eulogy was very informative about the international achievements of Ford's presidency. I've been looking for the text but haven't found it so far. If anyone does, please post it or link it on this Dose.
Goodbye, President Ford. Thank you
for your faith in Christ that helped bind
up and heal the wounds of this land
when we were riven and bleeding.

I liked that our President escorted Mrs. Ford down the aisle, that really touched my heart.

Pick the photo you like best or the one that you think represents this day in history best. You can also provide a favorite photo for your toaster by posting it here to snugs.

Whoa, am I glad you didn't post that sour pussed group on the Dose!
I am glad that you gave us the link, though, so we could see the look of desperate envy and hate on that pus-filled nasty face.

One thing struck me watching the funeral was how lonely Lynne Cheney looked until the VP was beside her.
One shot of her walking on her own through the Cathedral really got to me also when she was sitting there waiting for him.
I notice in those photos also there seems to be a large gap between her and the Carters almost as if she does not want to be too close to them or the other way round. I had not realised for quite a time she was sitting next to them you would have thought that Rosalind on a woman to woman basis would have a least tried to show some form of compassion to her because if it was obvious to be she was so upset from TV footage how much more it must have been in the flesh.
On the other hand giving them the benefit of the doubt Lynne Cheney may have been so caught up in what to me looked like deep grief and loneliness that they did not feel at liberty to intrude but whatever it really did get to me.

I can just imagine the emotions running through Mrs. Reagan's mind with all of this. That's what I thought, too.

The Cheney's have been close to the Fords for decades. I am sure that their grief was a bit overwhelming.
Cheney had wanted Ford to give him the oath of office for the inauguration but Ford was too weak to make the trip.

For any who did not see Brit Hume's show tonight, it ended with a playing of the Navy Hymn rendition at President Ford's funeral. Well worth setting a VCR or TIVO, etc. for the last 5-6 minutes.

I was surprised how well Nancy Reagan looked at first I did not realise it was her when I saw her on TV.
