WASHINGTON — Gerald R. Ford leaves his beloved U.S. Capitol for the last time Tuesday as the period set aside for ordinary Americans to say goodbye gives way to an elaborate invitation-only funeral at the awe-inspiring Washington National Cathedral.

As the first order of business Tuesday, Ford's remains were being removed from the Rotunda to lie in repose briefly outside the Senate before leaving the Capitol where Ford served as a congressman for 25 years. As vice president, Ford also had the constitutional title of president of the Senate.

I think Bubba's will be nothing less than a Spielberg production--very Hollywood.

Doro had to sit next to her "adopted" brother. I guess her mother said, Please come, Doro, I cannot bear to sit next to him again. I did it for Reagan's funeral, and once is enough.

Nancy at the end seat on the aisle -- strikes me wrong -- like women walking next to the curb.

Perhaps Bubba's will be held at the Clinton Presidential Library and Massage Parlor (to borrow a favorite line from Rush)...

Yes, the truth hurts. I think of what President Bush has gone through on a daily basis.

Why Doro and not the Bush twins?

Probably because Doro is a contemporary of the Ford children. The Bush twins were not a part of the Ford era, and it's likely that, even if they had been invited, they may have decided not to attend, and let someone else who knew President Ford have their seats.

Cheney's speech the other night rocked.

Can't be said enough. The Pentagon Channel replayed it this morning, so they likely have it archived. The transcript is also available at the White House website.

Do you think that Brian Wilson is silently antagonistic to Chris Wallace, or is his cameraman anti-Chris? That hair blown down into the middle of his forehead was dreadful.

Do you think that someone can convince Vice President Cheney to run for President?

Just having Wallace in a standing two-shot with Brian Wilson was not flattering for Wallace. Wallace looked like a little pipsqueak next to Brian Wilson.

UGH. It was painful too that Lynne Cheney had to sit next to Mr. Peanut and Nancy Reagan on the other side of chit-chatty Roslyn.
