WASHINGTON — Gerald R. Ford leaves his beloved U.S. Capitol for the last time Tuesday as the period set aside for ordinary Americans to say goodbye gives way to an elaborate invitation-only funeral at the awe-inspiring Washington National Cathedral.

As the first order of business Tuesday, Ford's remains were being removed from the Rotunda to lie in repose briefly outside the Senate before leaving the Capitol where Ford served as a congressman for 25 years. As vice president, Ford also had the constitutional title of president of the Senate.

Miss Marple, who was a Methodist who converted to Catholicism, is GLAD to hear the "old time music" which has a majesty and history.

At my funeral a lot of this music will be played.

I'm finally on CSPAN, thank heaven, so I can see it without interruption. That lockstep they do carrying the casket gets to me every time - and I have been to enough funerals to see it!

I'm an Episcopalian, and they are using Rite I for the burial of the dead at today's liturgy. One thing we know how to do up right is a funeral! :)

I'll probably lose it when they play the Navy Hymn.

You can tell he is a gentle and kind man at heart. She looks so frail. God bless them both for the burdens they are carrying this day.

I rather agree.

I agree that the feds are alot like schools at least these days - they take off every opportunity they have.

They take advantage of these funerals as they take advantage of every bit of snow. I worked for a Navy-related place by DC and every 5" of snow was reason to shut down. Our (small branch) co. was so dependent on the gov that we shut down too.

I understand the idea of respect by not working, but think about how noone in the private sector all over the country gets off. Are they all being disrespectful?

Never mind the disrespect rampant in (largely) Dem-socialist gov organizations, who really couldn't care less about a Republican. It's rather ironic.

Of course, with our bloated gov maybe it just seems a "gimme" these days whereas maybe a century ago or so it would've been OK, with few "workers". It would've been mostly the politicians.

And also, OTOH, perhaps it's GOOD that the feds don't "work"!

We'd be better off if they weren't working!

Yes... as our rector used to say, "All of the liturgy and none of the responsibility!" :)

Oh Diana... isn't this a beautiful ceremony?
Look at the close up's of the family. Mrs. Ford is so tiny. Dear, sweet soul.

Perhaps, today, you could leave your less classy thoughts unexpressed. At least until the body is out of the church? :)
