The flag would be white, if it was French.
Maybe a UN flag behind them?

Popular Science is pure hype in every issue.
The travel-time saved is probably too great (resulting in too little time) to be able to plan adequately. It will cause insufficient time for mission briefing, let alone logistical planning and follow-up.
Imagine teleporting to work when it is only a mile away, but your biggest task is to shower and dress each morning... and to PLAN YOUR DAY while driving there.

All we need to do now is put a pig into space. It would then render all of outer space contaminated to Muslims, thus quarantining them on Earth.

Aliens.

The thought behind that movie was incredible for the time. They had case less ammunition, built in grenade launchers, a flying vehicle that delivered a multi-wheeled AFV (the flying vehicle could also provide air support for the squad), man portable heavy caliber (low recoil-20 mm case less) SAW, see through flip out computer/map/etc screens helmet mounted that also provided light filtering IR..etc capabilities, and many other innovative ideas.
The obvious idea was to show a very self sufficient squad with most terrain capability and integral air support. Very forward thinking. Get a heavily armed squad deep into the combat area, provide them armor support and protection, and air support. It seems some planner was thinking of a capability mix of an osprey, harrier, Stryker, and CH-54. One of which was relatively new at that time, two of which did not exist, and one a proven veteran.
I was amazed at the thought. The directors cut brought out even more great ideas. It was cool for the day and still seems cool today.

My favorite was the 'remote sentry units' that were only seen in the Directors Cut.
Those things could come in handy.

We need to bring back the flamethrowers.

RE: Sentry Guns,
1962: East Germany deployed photovolcaic (spelling) (light beam breaking) and motion sensor MG 42s on the East German Border.....killed about 100 people fleeing Eastern Europe. There are four (4) samples in the United States, and I saw one tested at Fort Knox, KY. Very effective system. I am sure that we have the same, if not better, technology available today similar to the movie.

"'remote sentry units'"
South Korea is deploying those on its border with the North...I was astounded at the number that was quoted...in the "thousands"...each of these would shoot heavy machine gun rounds at the on-coming enemy. I thought of Aliens when I first read it!

'remote sentry units'
Yeah, except that once they ran out of ammo that was it. The scene where they fired everything was great. If it moved, they shot. No mercy, just action.
Great stuff.
