I am sure it is times like this when the VP does wonder or even wish that maybe he was not the VP and just a private citizen and therefore maybe could have been there more for the Ford family in the last few weeks.
Being VP is is not easy for him to go and visit though I understand he did as much as it was possible or just be there for someone. Also when he does the army of photographers, security etc does not lead to one being natural and being able to offer real comfort and care. IMHO this again is another reason I think he shies away from showing affection/emotion in public as he sees it in some way and coming over a false and contrived - photo ops.
I said on another thread yesterday though most of the meetings the President has the VP is in attendance (again counteracting the lie that he is not visible and is kept hidden - visiting heads of State and various Governments can testify this is not the case) by the time the press arrives he is gone and the world perceives as it being an exclusive meeting with the President.
He comes over as as sincere genuine man who does not like what he sees as false contrived photo op even when it is not.
So when we see public affection and emotion with him we know much more that means - at least that is how I perceive it.

I noticed the Queen and Mrs T as well plus the heartfelt thanks from Nancy Reagan during the time she stayed when Ronald Reagan's funeral was taking place - that one tears you up.
I was also struck with the comments of the sheer size of the place saying with the additional building etc that it was bigger than the White House.
Question would that mean bigger than the main part of the White House but not include the various wings?

And mine - it was also very educational as some of the photos I and others have enjoyed throughout the year I am sure we all find we are not quite sure of sequence or where they were taken a few months later. Doing this thread helped piece some of it together plus you always find a few new photos which I did and some of them have never been posted on the dose before.

Chritsmas/New Year holidays are sad in a way for those who work in retail at a time when they want to be with their families the rest of the world wants to be able to shop especially go to the sales as Christmas/New Year sales are somewhat of a tradition both sides of the Atlantic. It is not Christmas/New Year without them.
Often though those working in the shops are forgotten by those of us who have the whole period off and take it for granted - I have worked for 2 companies in the last 26 years and both of them broke up the last working day before Christmas and did not return until the next working day after New Year's Day and that is the case for most offices and engineering factories in Britain.

I also suspect away from the camera she got a big bear hug that was most certainly not allowed to be photographed.

And I am certain a duty of love not that of the duty of a former Chief of Staff that no doubt the press would like to twist or have already twisted it to.

Looking at those photos again the way Joyce is looking at him so similar as in the Rotunda yesterday though 30 years has passed it is obvious the deep feelings and love are still there in a way it makes this old photo even more wonderful and precious seeing the new photos of yesterday.

It is such a special happy one and he did not have that many genuine happy moments in second tenor as Defense Secretary.
Also there is something special IMHO of seeing an older couple obviously in love and so comfortable with each other as the Bushes (both GWB and GHWB), Cheneys and Rumsfelds are, you are indeed a blessed nation to have these 4 wonderful public examples of what real marriage and life long companionship is all about.
In the case of Cheneys and Rumsfeld their partners were high school or maybe in Rumsfeld case it was college sweethearts whatever they met very young as did of course Barbra Bush and Poppy. That alone is a lesson how people can and should grow together as they mature not grow apart as we see so often nowadays. People are so dissatisfied with life in general and often blame it on their partner or choices made early in life which revolve around their partners how often do we hear married to year did not experiment with other partners etc etc being the reason that relationships fail instead of taking personal responsibility and working jointly through these couples show how rewarding later in life that is where they can share a lifetime experience in a natural loving and companionship way but in all cases you can still the spark and attraction that bought them together is still there - the eyes and way they look at each other gives it away. They have worked and remained loyal to their partner and the reward they have is that they still can remain and feel why they were drawn to that person in the first place.
These 3 of Cheney's shows it wonderfully as many of Bushes do as well.

Let me repeat that paragraph with full stops etc I am getting out of breath just reading it now it is posted "In the case of Cheneys and Rumsfeld their partners were high school or maybe in Rumsfeld case it was college sweethearts whatever they met very young as did of course Barbra Bush and Poppy. That alone is a lesson how people can and should grow together as they mature not grow apart as we see so often nowadays.
People are so dissatisfied with life in general and often blame it on their partner or choices made early in life wh revolving around their partners. How often nowadays do we hear married too young, did not experiment with other partners etc etc being the reason that relationships fail.
Instead people need to take personal responsibility and working jointly through things. These couples show how rewarding later in life it is when they can share a lifetime experience in a natural loving and companionship way but in all 4 cases you can still the spark and attraction that bought them together is still there. The eyes and way they look at each other gives it away.
