Sorry, but can't agree. What is more common than to say "my thoughts and prayers" are with someone?
If the writer had said "My prayers are with your family" that would be correct. But he said "My prayers go to your family." The earlier point was that prayers go to God, not to humans, so maybe that was the error. Perhaps the editor is a Christian.
