Media 'repulsed' by Saddam footage

LONDON: Commentators and the media across Europe expressed shock and unease on Sunday at graphic television pictures showing the last moments of Saddam Hussein just before his execution.
Images of the fallen Iraqi dictator with a noose around his neck, surrounded by hooded xecutioners, horrified a continent which does not use capital punishment, even though the actual death was not shown.
"The images of Saddam Hussein with a noose around his neck are extremely disturbing and unnecessary," said Sir Menzies Campbell, leader of Britain's second opposition Liberal Democrat party, which opposed the Iraq war.
Patrick Baudouin, honorary president of FIDH (the International Federation of Human Rights), said he was "repulsed by images representing an extremely unhealthy voyeurism".
He added that it reminded him of the execution of Romanian dictator Nicolae Ceaucescu in 1989.
"The footage of the execution shocked the whole world," the Austrian daily Oesterreich said on Sunday while El Mundo in Spain complained that the Iraqi government had "transformed Saddam's execution into a televised spectacle".
For George Galloway, the controversial British lawmaker who has formed his own political party, Respect, on a platform of opposition to the Iraq war, the death was "a squalid little lynching".
A Russian foreign ministry spokesman denounced "the hurried severity of the execution, which outside investigators were not ashamed to show on television to the whole world".
They're always able to get a quote from Galloway, who himself should be going to the gallows if there was any justice in the world.
OR, the beheadings of Americans. Sorry, they have no standing to complain. The press cannot have it both ways. All this does is prove how biased they are and that they have a double standard.
I saw the execution video and when Saddam drops it sounds like someone bowling a loud strike in a bowling alley.
Well, let's do some moral equivalencying here. Al Qaeda televises beheadings on the Internet. Go tell them how outraged you are.
You just dont get you bowling ball retrieved.
Media: Get over it. An evil man died. Bunch of babies.
I'm sure they are all broken up when US forces or Christians are mutliated.
Well, I imagine that quite a few of those protesting most loudly got the acute neck itch themselves. It would explain.
Were they horrified when the Nazis hanged in Nuremberg? I suspect not.
Where are the articles written where these people expressed their repulsion at the beheading of innocent people by the Islamo-facists? I don't recall reading about their reaction to the beheading of Daniel Pearl or Nick Berg - both of whom were just civilians doing a non-military job. I also don't recall hearing about how repulsed they were at the video shown by CNN of terrorist snipers picking off American Soldiers. These people can all STFU and ES.
But it's alright to show the US military getting killed. OKAY....
They can't get over it--It makes them nervous--A Totalitarian Stalinist Met an appropriate end--They feel a twinge around their own necks...
It reminded me of that too. A happy day on which a tyrant was brought to justice. May we see many more. Soon.
I kind of liked it when "he just dropped out of sight".
No they weren't. I believe it was in Belguim where they opposed the death penalty before WWII and after but right at the tale end they formally made an exception and executed a large number of Nazi's and Nazi supporters themselves before going back to being tolerant again.
I could be wrong on the country but one of them did that.
What's that the left always yells whenever conservatives complain about the trash on TV? Oh yeah -- Change the Channel!
Is that on YouTube too????
As a knotter I`d be interested how the hangman made
such a large knot to go around that killers neck.
That big sucker easily broke his neck.
That Galloway`s as evil as Sadam for sure.
