Four bombs go off in Bangkok
Nation Multimedia ^ | December 31, 2006

Posted on 12/31/2006 4:03:58 AM PST by killjoy

Four explosives went off almost simultaneously in Bangkok, injuring at least 20 people as the city people have just started to celebrate the New Year's eve.

One person was dead at the Big C supermarket, Sapan Kwai branch, where witness saw a man dropped a grenade from a pedestrian bridge, police said.

At least 20 were injured at the Victory Monument when a powerful bomb went off near a bus station.

At the Klong Toei area near the Na Ranong intersection, a bomb hidden in a trash can near a Chinese spirit shrine exploded and injured two bypassers. The explosion caused a secondary explosion to a number of cookinggas cylinders that were situated nearby.

At the Season Square Shopping Mall, a loud explosion went off at the parking space, creating a panic but no injury.

The sarcasm you see is an outpouring of anger over political correctness trumping what some view as common sense.
''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''

True enough, but the Quaker, Unitarian, etc. joke is now played out. They appear every time a new attack is perpetrated. Enough is enough. We got the point back in 2002. This is breaking news and it's not appropriate or necessary to make that point any longer. It is understood by all freepers that we are in a war to the death with islam. At this point we need facts and insights.

> Americans have a penchant for dark humor and sarcasm during times of stress. Blame it on Mark Twain! <

May we all pay tribute to the legacy of Samuel Clements, a truly great literary figure.

But if truth be told, the mixing of humor with bad news is a lot older than Mark Twain. Perhaps the most skilled proponent of this literary device was Shakespeare. He employs it time and again, especially when Sir John Falstaff appears in a Shakespearean tradgedy.

[And it's not for nothing that Rush Limbaugh has oft been called a latter day Falstaff.]

So I join in urging our valued friend Killjoy to lighten up a bit and continue his much-appreciated postings.

You truly know nothing about Thailand. There is ONE Muslim General. The army is over 90 oercent Buddhist as is most of the country.

Please learn something if you feel you must comment.

He posted his comment in the form of a question, and I assume, was trying to learn something. If you have information please share but skip the condescension.

"Yep!

Gotta wonder if the execution of Saddam JUST BEFORE New Year celebrations all over the world -- with the attendant LARGE gatherings of merry-makers -- isn't an exercise in the old Hegelian Dialectic.

If the term isn't familiar, look it up."

Other than NWO conspiracy theories, that doesn't say much except "shit happens".

Must be those Baptists, again...lol...

Killjoy, you misunderstand Bon mots. What he posted is called a "sarcasm". He is just pointing out that the mainstream media is not reporting the most obvious information that the bombings are caused by islamic extremists.
''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''

We all understand sarcasm. The point is that his posts, along with the others in the same vein, are trite and trivial in the face of breaking news about an new and unfolding attack. We all understand the political correct game played in America and have heard this "joke" about who could it be endless times since 9-11. It is just not appropriate any longer, when we need current information and honest dialog from people with expertise.

Killjoy, I appreciate you bringing the news, I really do.

I used to live around Sapan Kwai, near the Indra Hotel. Lots of people on the sidewalks around there...

The question was based on the statement that a Muslim coup had taken place. That is the furthest thing from the truth.

If one actually has no clue what is happening in Thailand, why not just ask?

As it turns out, there are actually people who DO know something about Thailand on FR.

While I can't speak for the poster and he has just apologized profusely, it appeared to me that "didn't a muslim coup just occur in Thailand?" , was asking for conformation of what he thought he had heard.

With no insult nor addition to injury intended to any poster on this thread, could I perhaps interject that there seems a lot of ado about nothing here? Sarcasm is and will always be a great outlet for frustration over MSM or PC conduct. I use the scroll button to pass by posts I feel are silly. I don't see any intended harm or insult to any poster here, nor to Thailand. There is present an always appropriate insult to the MSM and PC reporting, not to mention radical islam, which is not unique to this thread. Informational update posts are easily found with a scroll button. Honestly, thanks for the post.

The problem is when the signal-to-noise ratio gets to the point where it it no longer worth it to scroll through posts looking through the noise. Posters are not insulting the MSM, they are insulting FR. The source probably doesn't mention Muslims because it does not need to. Everyone in Thailand already knows who did it.

I agree with you that the noise level gets pretty high sometimes, and that this can be frustrating. But, to me, that is just about impossible to avoid on a forum as large as this one, especially on such a charged issue as a (probable) attack by radical islamists. Whenever I see so many responses to a post I feel that the poster has made a good contribution.

By the way, Thailand was g big part of my life during the 70's. I found the people very, very pleasant and I like the Buddhist mentality. I hope they are able to beat this islamic intrusion definitively back to the Malayan border. Truly, I don't understand how a Muslim was able to succeed in a coup, there. Keep posting and give us reflections from your advantageous perspective.

killjoy, don't let the typical majority of vapid, sophomoric replies, affect you in the least. I for one , being headed your way at the end of January , eagerly await further information fron your vantage point.

> Everyone in Thailand already knows who did it. <

Not so sure. My Thai wife, here in the USA, has already picked up -- and tends to believe -- the Bangkok rumor mill's latest, which is that the bombings were the work of Thaksin's supporters.

As supporting evidence, she cites the fact that anti-Thaksin commentators on ASTV (Sondhi's news channel) were saying yesterday, well before the bombings, that violence would soon be forthcoming from elements of Thaksin's TRT Party.

[And in fact, she had discussed these predictions with me yesterday, again, well before the bombings.]

My counter to her is that the bombings could just as easily have been done by "agents provacateurs" among the anti-TRT (pro-coup) folks, in order that blame might be attributed to Thaksin.

Bottom Line:

At this early stage, and without better evidence, we may not be able to discriminate among three possible groups of suspects, (1) Thaksin supporters, (2) coup supporters, and (3) Muslims.

I am very much inclined to support your hypothesis. The idiot Generals have made some incredibly dumb moves in the past weeks, seriously bringing into question their ability to manage the economy. Thaksin may have made himself rich, but he was bringing others along with him and apparently making enemies among the sex and drug economy. Incidents such as this seem likely to distract attention from the problems of the coup leadership and strengthen the Army's support.
