The reason I'm skeptical, besides the obvious, is that he has maybe twenty square feet of wing area there. With a wing loading of more than ten pounds per square foot, he would need at least 100+ MPH to take off. Then there is the problem of drag with his body hanging out in the breeze. Not likely!

Er, have you read the article?

He doesn't "take off".

He drops from a plane.

Watch the video from post 3. He launches himself out of an airplane at altitude, flies with the wings with jet-assist, and then pops his parachute

Hey genius, watch the video in post #3.

He DOES start out at greater than 100mph by jumping out of a plane in flight.

..he would need at least 100+ MPH to take off.

Apparently, he stepped from a plane doing just that.

"he would need at least 100+ MPH to take off"

In more advanced models that's where the roller skates will come into play.

Watch the video at the previous link. He takes off by jumping out of a plane, gets his speed up in the dive, flies around and then lands by parachute after folding the wings. It is truly amazing.
