They said on Fox News that Saddam's execution was deliberately hastened so as to avoid falling on the holiday. Sounds like maybe some revisionists moved the holiday up to coincide with Saddam's execution - - just so they'd have something to wring their hands and whine about.

Yeah, just as I thought. The LA Times is lying. A basic 'Ask.com' search revealed:

Eid-ul-Adha is a major Islamic holiday honoring the prophet Abraham's willingness to sacrifice his son for God. Muslims prepare and share meals with their families, neighbors, and the less fortunate. Eid-ul-Adha began Tuesday, January 10, 2006 this year. It begins Sunday, December 31, 2006 next year.

So indeed, the leftist, America-hating scumbags at the LA Times are lying - - they indeed "moved the holiday up to coincide with Saddam's execution - - just so they'd have something to wring their hands and whine about."

Muslims consider sunrise as the beginning of the day.
(not a lot of clocks around in Mohammad's day).

Saddam was hanged in the pre-dawn hours...thus not on a holiday, just before. And the arrival of the holiday was expected to keep any reactionary violence down.
