‘I Saw Fear, He Was Afraid’ (Newsweek Interview With Man Who Filmed Hussein Execution)
Newsweek ^ | December 30, 2006 | Michael Hastings

Posted on 12/30/2006 1:00:51 AM PST by RWR8189

Dec. 30, 2006 - Ali Al Massedy was 3 feet away from Saddam Hussein when he died. The 38 year old, normally Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki's official videographer, was the man responsible for filming the late dictator's execution at dawn on Saturday. "I saw fear, he was afraid," Ali told NEWSWEEK minutes after returning from the execution. Wearing a rumpled green suit and holding a Sony HDTV video camera in his right hand, Ali recalled the dictator's last moments. "He was saying things about injustice, about resistance, about how these guys are terrorists," he says. On the way to the gallows, according to Ali, "Saddam said, ‘Iraq without me is nothing.’"

Ali says he followed Saddam up the gallows steps, escorted by two guards. He stood over the hole and filmed from close quarters as Saddam dropped through—from "me to you," he said, crouching down to show how he shot the scene. The distance, he said, was "about one meter," he said. "He died absolutely, he died instantly." Ali said Saddam's body twitched, "shaking, very shaking," but "no blood," he said, and "no spit." (Ali said he was not authorized to disclose the location, and did not give other details of the room.)

Ali said the videotape lasts about 15 minutes. When NEWSWEEK asked to see a copy, Ali said he had already handed the tape over to Maliki's chief of staff. "It is top secret," he said. He would not give the names of officials in attendance, though he estimates there were around 20 observers. One of them, Iraqi National Security Adviser Mouwaffak al-Rubaie, told CNN that Saddam clasped a Koran as the noose was tied around his neck, and refused to wear a hood. He also said that government officials had not decided whether or not to

To be honest, I would belong there too if it wasn't for the grace of Jesus Christ.

Me too, SkyPilot. And I make a point of thanking Jesus every day for taking the punishment and death that I deserved on Himself so that I could have peace, joy and security now and eternal life when it's my time to go.

Jesus talked about hell more than He talked about Heaven. Hell certainly is real, and God paid a heavy, heartbreaking price to keep us out of it.

He had reason to be. I think of Genesis - "And for your lifeblood I will surely demand an accounting. I will demand an accounting from every animal. And from each man, too, I will demand an accounting for the life of his fellow man." I don't envy Saddam Hussein having to give God an accounting for the lives of his fellow men. He has the blood of thousands to account for - but not the blood of
Jesus to save him.
= = =

Very well put.

Thx.

Am still glad he's gone.

True.

But that's a statement about the executioners being more civilized than he.

It is healthy to feel that way.

He had to be killed and a wood chipper would have been good, but it is not good to get a real thrill out of any killing, otherwise you become, to an extent what he was.

Just wanted to let everyone know that Public Radio (I heard it here in Pittsburgh) is now putting on a rather slanted news story about Saddam and his execution.

On the news on my Public radio station WQED, they told the story of his execution ....... the young boy who had a "hardscrabble", "impoverished" upbringing......blah, blah, blah.

It was all summed up basically to say that that is what made dear Saddam grow up to kill hundreds of thousands of people.

More of the same from Lefty Radio.

Ah yes, the old "victim of society" excuse. The left excuses wrongdoers from common criminals to dictators. They turn the truth on its head -- the people who victimize society are portrayed as the poor helpless victims of society.

The left/liberalism ......

liberalism --- the art of standing on your head and telling the rest of the world they're upside down.

And I'm not referring to the physical act of being executed. That was a Sunday school picnic compared to what he faces for all eternity.

Saddam roasting in Hell for all eternity? He'll be in good company, though -- Mahatma Gandhi, Thomas Jefferson, Albert Einstein, among many other notables. None of those were Christians, so I assume they're roasting just as crisp as Saddam. It's a good thing God subscribes to the proportionality principle in punishment.

I saw this on CNN which I watched for a while to see their slant and there is was. Poor little Saddam was mistreated as a child. Grew up in poverty in what amounted to a mud hut sort of slum dwelling with no electric or water. I guess the point was that there is no wonder he turned out so angry and hateful. At that point I turned to Animal Planet and watched funny pet videos. Well, right after barfing up everything I'd eaten for the last 3 days. Thank goodness for Animal Planet. A few fuzzy critters and I returned to the sane world.

My FRiend, that website might be many things, but it is most definitely NOT a 'hoot'.

When we're talking about how one spends eternity, it is a serious matter.

If Saddam Hussein died without the Blood of Jesus Christ covering his sins, he is in the depths of Hell even now.

A Happy New Year to you and yours.

When you listen to NPR or public TV, (funded by the tax payers experience by the way), be fore warned it spews mostly liberal
agendas and, ideas.

Every year each of these ententes have fund drives, I often laugh when seeing them. It amazes me, people will give money for this federal funded program.

Hitler blamed the German people just before he shot himself I believe.

Yes, he did and well before he shot himself. According to Albert Speer, he also wanted to take down the remaining Germans with him, a scorched earth policy and then some. One of his famous last statements was that he'd been too kind, too easy.

Meglomaniacs, they're never to blame for anything - in their own minds.

Hopefully they had something like 5 different cameras on him. (probably our h]guys made sure there were)

We dont need certain people going around saying that Saddam wasnt executed .... (Oh some will anyway, but having plenty of film and sound of it happening is enough for most people.)

He also followed that up with something along the lines of the German people not 'deserving' such a great leader.

Well today we took out some trash.

I've read some liberal bed wetter types worrying that the 'arab street' will just know that it was the US and not the Iraqis who did this. I watched a bunch of 'experts' on Fox earlier deny this ad nauseum.

I was shouting at the TV "You're God da**** right we did it, and we'll f'ing do it again the next time one of you tin pot pedophile worshipping goat suckers so much as looks at us cross eyed!"

Just once I want to hear some talking head on TV say that.

Just once.

He was always terrified of death when he was dictator and was caught being a coward. Of course he was going to try and put up a brave front because he couldn't stop it but he was obviously afraid as he should be. Yet you can guarantee it's more about fear of what happens to him rather than regret over what he did to torture and murder millions of people. He's paying now.
