Interesting situation. I would expect the executioners to not have hoods, while the executionee would be hooded. This picture shows the exact opposite...

Um...it seems more important to protect the identities of the executionERS then the executionEE. After all, the executionEE can only be executed once and the executionERS would probably rather not be kidnapped, tortured and beheaded.

historically, executioners were hooded. Blindfolds were optional for the condemned.

Saddam refused the hood - and the executioners needed to be hooded so that Saddam's loyalists would not take revenge on them or their families.
