It's interesting that a liberal I know switched his party registration from D to R just so he could follow a pattern similar to Howlin's. That is, he figured the D side was already to the left, but he could do the most damage to conservatism by voting on the R side for liberal Republicans, both in the primary and general elections.

He pointed out that by voting this way, even if it caused a D to lose, it meant that in the long run, even R's would have to move to the left to get more votes.

That does seem similar to the way conservatives are now marginalized with lip service but no action. As long as candidates can count on our votes regardless of actions, then why should they ever act as conservatives?

You should have read further on the thread, bud:

There's always a certain percentage that will sit home or go another way. No biggie. My advice is to ignore them. Concentrate on recruiting those who see the larger picture and will help us hold the White House in '08 and win back the majority in congress! We must continue destroying the tyrants and terrorists wherever they rear their ugly heads and we must contine rebuilding the Judiciary. We know that our country and our Liberty itself is at risk if RAT Hillary or Benedict Arnold McCain wins the presidency, especially if they have a RAT congress behind them.

I agree with HIM: it seems to be YOU who are at odds with the purpose of this web site.

The real fact is a win by Hillary, Obama, Edwards, etc., will result in more Ruth Bader Ginsbergs and fewer John Roberts and Sam Alito's on the SCOTUS. McCain would probably go liberal on the court as well. Liberal judges will never help defeat the ACLU/9th Circus and help move the country back to the right.

Rudy, on the other hand, has said he approves of the kind of judges Bush has put on the bench, he believes in constitutionalist judges (as do I).

We, the GOP, do not have any strong conservatives who can run AND win in 2008. I will vote for the candidate I believe will give us more judges in the conservative column, and that (so far) is Rudy. Abortion and gun control is both a States Rights issue and the President has little say over either issue other than to sign or veto legislation.

If we are smart, and actually get you far right conservatives to show up and vote, (once more) for the GOP, then there is no danger of Rudy taking away your guns and Rudy is not going to push for liberal abortion legislation. He also feels strongly on the WOT and that is a big issue with me as well... so, unless someone a lot better materializes withing the next few months, I already know how I plan to vote in the primary and in the general election and it is a totally pragmatic approach.

My husband and I noticed during the midterms that the "Blue Dog democrats" were more fiscally and socially Conservative than the Republicans they were running against. We understood why the Conservative democrat candidates won over the more liberal Republicans.
Howlin brought something very important to my attention. We were not voting conservative. We were voting for a letter of the alphabet.
We've decided, and you may not agree, to go Independent. Fiscal and social conservatism is what we support, and it may not be the Republican party who will do that for us anymore.
We didn't leave the Republicans. "The Republicans left us." The Republicans have moved too far into liberal territory.
We always wondered why so many people were going Independent. Now, we understand.
