Incoming Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid will miss the state funeral for former President Gerald Ford at the Capitol Rotunda on Saturday night, opting instead to lead a delegation to South America with an expected stop at the Machu Picchu Inca ruins.
Reid, D-Nev., left Wednesday afternoon from Andrews Air Force Base in Maryland with a bipartisan group of five other senators, including Sen. Dick Durbin, D-Ill., the incoming assistant majority leader, for what has been described as a weeklong visit to Bolivia, Ecuador and Peru.
The highlight of the trip is said to be separate meetings with the presidents of the three nations, with the last one scheduled in Peru on Tuesday afternoon

Seems fair, few people will show up a their funerals....
Pretty disrespectful, but I'm not surprised.......
Fine and dandy and typically bad form, but he and the others won't be missed.
Who wants to go to a Republican funeral, when you can meet with a bunch of Communist presidents?
Wouldn't you take the Peru trip if some lobbyist was going to pick up the tab????
They'll NEVER get it. NEVER. That's what separates the boys from the men.
Fine with me. The fewer RATs the better....
Maybe they will "sacrifice' Reid and his party to the Gods. OOOPs, I forgot. You HAVE to have a heart for that !
IfPresident Ford's last name was Wellstone........
Indeed!

.."eh, maybe they'll get caught up in a llama stampede"

"Do a lot of casino business in Peru, do they Senator?
[ altered text from the film "The Aviator"]
Opening the visit with a stop at a fair celebrating U.S. aid projects in Bolivia, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid commended Bolivia for the democratic election a year ago that installed Morales as the country's first Indian president.
In Bolivia, the Senate delegation will seek to soothe recent tensions between the two countries over Morales' announcement Monday that he would seek to significantly expand the limits on its legal crop of coca leaf, chewed here as a mild stimulant but also the main ingredient in cocaine.
While the move drew sharp criticism from the U.S., which has strenuously objected to any increase in coca production, this month the two nations signed an agreement guaranteeing $34 million in U.S. anti-narcotics aid for next year.

They're out giving away our tax money. That's why they're too busy.
Good, save on deoderizers.
Too bad he won't take Lola Peloser with him?
Pray for W and Our Troops
Most take the trail. This is purely for a taxpayer funded vacation. There is no pressing US business in Peru. I am sure Reid and his dimwit buddies will be flown in to all sights. Shame we can't cut off funding for crap like this.
"...opting instead to lead a delegation to South America with an expected stop at the Machu Picchu Inca ruins."
Reid no doubt wants to see the ruins at Machu Picchu so he can get some more ideas on how to completely ruin American civilization to the same extent once he's back in power...I'm convinced it's the true mission of the leftists/democrats to destroy America.
