The Iraqi government has told U.S. officials that former Iraqi president Saddam Hussein could be executed within the next few days, a senior Bush administration official said on Thursday.
"I've heard that it's going to be a couple more days, probably," the official said while Bush took a holiday break at his Texas ranch.
He said he had heard from U.S. officials in Baghdad that the execution would not be Thursday U.S. time or Friday Baghdad time. "It's going to be maybe another day or so," the official said.
He said the government of Iraq would most likely inform U.S. officials about the timing of the execution when it gets closer.
The U.S. official's comments were at odds with those of Iraqi officials who earlier backed away from suggestions Saddam would be hanged within a month. The officials said that the hanging would occur within 30 days only if Iraq's president issues a decree it takes place immediately, which seemed unlikely.
Are they short of rope? Post an address. I'll mail some.
It should be done right when the ball hits bottom in Time Square.
Is his hanging going to be in synch with the ball dropping in Times Square?
a couple more days
maybe another day or so,
Or not.
Anyone else find this ironic?
How about having Saddam stand in line for police/army recruiting and have them kill their own former leader?
I just want to know if it is going to be televised?
Reuters just posted a headline saying Iraqi officials have said they won't be hanging Saddam within the 30 day time period. Who to believe? Reuters or Reuters?
Let's just get this sideshow over with already.
I think they should just do it quietly and announce it after the fact.
The hanging will be videotaped but not televised (at present) for fear of inciting Baathists
Bet when the time comes ole Saddam squeals like a pig.
We can only hope the Iraqi's don't cave to Bath party threats.
Suppose we will ever see it??
Why do you want to? We don't have public executions here.
Since I participated in the first Gulf War, I want to watch him hang. This is personal for me, and having his hanging censored, would be an insult.
Yes, but eventually it will be broadcast or make it's way onto the 'net, then YouTube, Google and a dozen other sites will feature it.
I wonder what the hold up is, get a rope and do it already! It's not like you have to look hard to find someone willing to pull the stupid lever....
