How will she be able to do this? I know that the House can choose to seat new members or not, but she is not the Speaker until all the new House members are seated and she has a majority vote. Until then, Hastert is still the speaker. In other words, she won't be the Speaker until after Buchanan will already be seated.

Although I completely cannot fathom how Pelosi has the power to "decide" not to seat the state certified winning candidate

She has the power, if a majority of the House will vote with her, because the Constitution (Article I, section 5) says that "Each House shall be the Judge of the Elections, Returns and Qualifications of its own Members".

Whatever happened to the Democratic mantra of not 'overturning elections' or not 'disenfranchising voters'.

Here in Indiana we had a number of close races for State offices and without exception the Dems kept demanding recounts until they came out on top and then it was, 'it is time to stop these divisive recounts and move on for the good of the State'. The Republicans, as would be expected, excepted defeat graciously.

Why do the Dems always assume a vote not cast is really a vote for them? What if they find out that 17,999 of those votes were meant to be Rep votes?

No, I think that as usual Nancy poo has trouble controlling her mouth and is speaking to the left wing crazies of the DemocRATS.

Like him or not (and there is rather much not to like) Hoyer is an old fashioned machine politician who wheels and deals out of the light. It is not worth the fight to unseat one House Republican, the Dem caucus is pretty tight. He will save his influence for other uses.

That's the easiest question for me to answer," said Brendan Johnson, the second-oldest child of Tim and Barbara Johnson. "From my conversations with the doctors and based on the progress he has been making, I feel very confident that he is going to be getting back to work sooner rather than later."

Translation: Dad's playing pinochle with Castro right now, so I'll have to get back to you later on that.

If she does this, she can kiss Republican co-operation goodbye.

Then by all means let's hope she does it. We are safest when actions of the legislature are stymied.

Given that they have elected trent lott, given past conduct by Republicans, given the koombayah breakfast plans of the senate,

The only response to such a Caligulosi manuver will be "thank you sir may I have another" by the Republicans.

There are called the stupid party for a reason.

Well, who's to stop her? Democrats just run rampant and no one takes exception. There are never any consequences. They get away with all kinds of stuff, so this is just the next step.

It would sure make it easier for the good Governor of SD to throw typical Republican decency to the wind, and appoint a Republican in Johnson's place (if that opportunity presents itself) if Ms. Pelosi sets that tone.

She may not care, but her party sure will.

Y'know ... it occurs to me that we keep referring to the hitlery and pee-so-low as queens ... but I'm thinking their envy is towards the penis.

We've given them male names, they get hard-ons if some one crosses them and all they want to do is f*** whomever slighted them ... and like all dick heads .. they haven't a clue about anything.

No word but, well, the fact that there's never BEEN *any* word tells me not good, poor guy.

It doesn't matter, he isn't going to die, so there will not be a replacement until January 2008 at the earliest.

I hope he recovers out of basic human decency. Furthermore the fact is that his present condition cannot do the Republicans any good.

If you understood Article I, Section 5 of the Constitution you would.

Section 5. Each House shall be the judge of the elections, returns and qualifications of its own members, and a majority of each shall constitute a quorum to do business; but a smaller number may adjourn from day to day, and may be authorized to compel the attendance of absent members, in such manner, and under such penalties as each House may provide.

Thus ushering in the new Democrat era of honesty in government and higher ethics in the US House of Representatives?

No but since we know how the votes stack up, the election of the Speaker is a forgone conclusion. Pelosi has the votes.
