Jeanine Browne knew something was amiss the moment she strolled into the Public Garden yesterday morning with her 5-month-old whippet, Cocoa . Birds were chirping, the grass was green, and families were playing football in sweatshirts, no hats or gloves needed.

The historic Boston park utterly lacked a key ingredient for classic yuletide cheer: snow.

"I want icicles dripping from the trees. I want 32 degrees. I want a white Christmas," Browne protested. "I might as well be in San Francisco if I wanted a Christmas like this."

I was driving through Arizona one April about 10 years ago and recall a blizzard in Sedona. Roads were blocked. Is that common/uncommon for snow in April in Sedona?

Tom Nolan , a grandfather who was strolling on Castle Island in South Boston with his cocker spaniel, Bailey , said he was worried about global warming. "They laugh and mimic Al Gore, but I believe him," Nolan said. "It's a major problem. Maybe not today, but years down the pike."

Last April, we got 18 inches in about 24 hours where I live. The high desert in Northeastern Arizona. This was a very uncommon storm. It's also uncommon for Sedona. Flagstaff on the other hand....

While I was in the military, people would ask me where I was from. I'd say Arizona and almost everyone of them would tell me a story about being stuck in Flagstaff during a blizzard. LOL!

Same here. I got cured of snow when we lived in the lake effect area south of Lake Ontario and got 11 FEET of it in one January. I know because I was measuring it for the NWS that year.

Hello - I had four foot drifts at my front door...in Colorado Springs. And I was stranded in Phoenix for four days, and didn't get home until after midnight Christmas Eve.

Well, not really. But to hear some complain you would think so. I wonder just who told them that there had to be snow on the ground come Christmas morning?

Personally, I would prefer a white Christmas. Just as long as it all melted away by the day after. In my long life with all the snow and blizzard throughout the years, anyone who wants snow can have mine too. Now everyone should have a little snow. Like maybe a matchbox full in their freezer so they can take it out now and then just to remind themselves what it actually looks like.

In 1967 they probably blamed it on Global Cooling. That was all the rage in the 70's. I remember being taught how ALL the scientist had PROVEN that pollution would block out the sun and we were all going to freeze to death.

Now ALL the scientist have PROVEN how pollution will block in the sun's heat and we're all going to burn.

I often wonder how many of the GW crowd were in the global cooling camp back then, and how they can square that.

If these guys would just say "Hey, we have a theory that human activity MAY cause harm to the environment. So we think to be safe we should clean up the air and water and recycle." But don't tell me I have to return to the dark ages because of a theory stated as fact based on BS paid for by people that want to live in the dark ages.

San Francisco is actually having a much colder summer just like much of the rest of the Pacific coastline all the way up to Calgary where they are having the coldest winter since the 1800's. sorry, global warming is only happening on the east coast this year. Somehow, that should be good for oil prices but it won't be.

You are more than welcome to it. However, I assure you it gets tiresome over time. While it is quite pretty to look at and makes your yard looks as good as any of your neighbors', the darn stuff is really slippery and cold. lol

The scientists on the global warming side predict a rise of one degree in the global average temperature. I don't think that's going to make or break your typical white Christmas.

I live about 100 miles south of San Francisco and for about two weeks or a little more now, it's been below freezing in the morning. I've seen cold days here but not to that extent. Personally, I don't mind the cold weather. Freezing weather kills germs in the air. A little snow, 2 or 3 inches, would thrill me and my son. I grew up in Northern Quebec Province and it was the norm to have 15-20 feet of snow in a season.

Fresh deep snow powder can be hard to 'walk' in too, when with every step you sink to your crotch. Then you either use snow shoes or crawl. I did that for a week when we got snowed-in when I was 10. I loved it, but mom and dad didn't seem too pleased. Dad especially wasn't happy about pushing groceries in a duffel bag up a 55 degree hill. Took us an hour to go only about a quarter mile. Felt good though to 'bring home the bacon'.
