How sad that some people have tuned into Nancy Reagan's grief and used her in a similar way to Cindy Sheehan IMHO these are the people that should be bought to brook not those they use. In Cindy's case though I get the feeling part of it she enjoys but that maybe is still part of her grief and possibly indicates a mental breakdown.

The 2 names I always think of when thinking of President Ford is Don Rumsfeld and Dick Cheney.

There's a third. He was CIA Director. Goes by the name of GWH Bush. ;^)

I agree I had a grandmother and mother who both developed advances stages of the disease before they died and it is terrible and take the personality of the person completely.

Nancy Reagan was totally devoted to Ronnie almost an obsession some may even say it was a mental condition so I can imagine it has coloured all thoughts during and since this terrible time.

For this reason alone I give her some slack plus also how much of what is released in her name actually is what she has said is IMHO debatable. As very few of the statements we have actually heard her say.

Never let us forget though she was a registered republican before Ronald Reagan and even in the midst of the stem cell row in 2004 she did say although she would not publically campaign or appear on RNC platform with him she gave her personal support/vote however you want to put it to GWB.

I agree one wonders if and when she sees the statement whether she will recognise it from what she was advised would be put out.

I think many know where it comes from and I think many feel it should not have been in a statement re Ford's death but as I said before we need to cut her some slack due to her age and devotion to her husband.

Very true I should not have missed that one. I am sure there are others as well that held more minor positions that are still serving their country directly or indirectly today.

I missed the transposed letters but being a typist I often do that and rearrange them in my mind so read them as correct LOL.

Amen to that, prairie.

One thing we know, President Ford's funeral will not devolve into a political spectacle as so many Democrats have handled the funerals of people on their side of the aisle.

Your memories almost mirror mine...I had problems with his pardon at the time but later came to admire and respect him . Carter was my turning point in my party affiliation...He turned me from a conservative democrat to a Conservative Republican...I greatly admire not only him but his wife Betty Ford...My prayers are with her and the rest of his family today....God Bless Gerald R Ford...May he rest in peace knowing what a role he played in healing a Country in great need of healing....

A friend of mine worked as an "advance man" for the Ford White House, setting up events where the Prez appeared. He said Gerald Ford impressed him by his humanity and his interest in other people.

For example, there were several "stewards" at the White House who took care of the kinds of chores that one would expect of a butler. Several of them were Filipinos who had served in this capacity through several administrations as employees of the government. They told my friend that Pres. Ford almost always took time to speak with them and not only remembered their names, but details about their wives, family members, etc. He really listened to them with personal concern and interest.

That impresses me, that a man in such an exalted position would be personable with the serving staff. It speaks volumes about his character.

A very underrated President. More class in his pinky than Jimmy "Adolph" Carter could ever imagine having.

Rest in Peace.

Gerald ford may not have been a great President but he was the right man for the job at that point in our history.

May God have mercy on his soul and grant him eternal rest. May Perpetual Light shine upon him.
