SAN FRANCISCO -- California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger returned to the state Monday for surgery after breaking his leg in an Idaho skiing accident over the weekend, a spokeswoman said.
Schwarzenegger will undergo non-emergency surgery Tuesday morning to repair his fractured right femur, which he broke while skiing with his family in Sun Valley, Idaho, on Saturday, spokeswoman Sabrina Demayo Lockhart said.
The procedure will use cables and screws to secure the governor's upper right thigh bone, said Dr. Kevin Ehrhart, the orthopedic surgeon performing the surgery at an undisclosed hospital in Los Angeles.
The governor, who has already been admitted to the hospital, will be placed under general anesthesia for no longer than two hours, though the surgery is not expected to last that long, Ehrhart said.
California Lt. Gov. Cruz Bustamante will serve as acting governor while Schwarzenegger is under anesthesia, said Andrea Lynn Hoch, the governor's legal affairs secretary.
That only time Cruz could be governor LOL!
Cruz a Democrat? Hopefully there are no key bills up for being signed right now.
Yeah he is we have Demo LT Governor don't ask we are weird in Cali LOL!
I think Arnold took care of business before he went on vacation I could be wrong
Cruz acting Gub --- nobody notices difference.
Lets hope he gets through this quickly. Break a leg, Arnold. Oops, he already did.
Didn't his spokespeople say he specifically wouldn't be returning until after Christmas? I guess Christmas Day afternoon was close enough.
His leg was probably throbbing, I wouldn't mess around either.
You're right. I wouldn't futz with it, either. I hope his surgery is successful. No sense in an action hero going south due to a legbreak.
Hi, Norm, Merry Christmas :)
Well he said he'd be back, lol!
My first thought was "Cruz"? Tom? They had another celebrity fill in for him? Did that make Katie the first lady? Sigh.
They can do wonders with Trojan Horse injuries these days, remember Barbaro? :-}
Belated Merry Xmas and much success in the New Year!
I think I would steer away from skiing if I were a)related to a Kennedy by blood or marriage or b)an actor/singer turned politician.
Hurry back Arno. I'll be missing your global warming jive.
I think that the sooner the leg gets fixed after the injury the better the result.
And, so it begins....
The incoming Lt. Gov. is a Dem, too.
hehe :) The goofiest thing today has been the breathless announcements of the lt. gov. taking the reins during Arnold's surgery. As if!
Same wishes to you and yours! Drudge is live on Sunday night, if you're home and feel like chatting.
