WASHINGTON, Dec. 25 Counting on the support of the new Democratic majority in Congress, Democratic lawmakers and their Republican allies are working on measures that could place millions of illegal immigrants on a more direct path to citizenship than would a bill that the Senate passed in the spring.
The lawmakers are considering abandoning a requirement in the Senate bill that would compel several million illegal immigrants to leave the United States before becoming eligible to apply for citizenship.
The lawmakers are also considering denying financing for 700 miles of fencing along the border with Mexico, a law championed by Republicans that passed with significant Democratic support.

Should all now be shocked at this?
Did we REALLY expect anything else?
Time will tell, but I am not very upbeat; just glad I am old enough to be pushing up daisies when the XYZ nationals that despise the US walk on this land freely after milking every conceivable benefit from the taxpayers.
And then, who knows how many generations from now, are conquered by another nation as productive and creative as the US has been from birth, because 'they' won't be able to even feed themselves.
I have no intent to give up. I don't like it but I'm still a constituent and I still have a voice.
The Federales have cheapened the currency; now, they cheapen the law and debase the value of citizenship. No wonder so many people don't care any more...even to bother with voting.
BUMP to what you wrote. Especially the pushing daisies part. I feel badly for the folks today that will feel the brunt of this.
PING
Translation - Republicans cave and Dems get 12 million new voters.
Amnesty is repulsive enough but what's with this weird obsession to make it possible for illegal alien maggots to become citizens? Their anchor babies are citizens. Isn't that enough? GW let these illegals overrun our borders the last 6 years.
Response: However the final bill reads it will inflict the maximum amount of harm short of actual shooting.
Disgusting but not surprising. What WILL be entertaining however is if McCain wins the GOP nomination and is against Hitlery. Those who condemn him now will be singing his praises later on. Power is seductive for bots.
Don't give up then. Stay in there and fight for your children and grandchildren, and your country. It ain't over till it's over. There is another election in '08. We just have to be loud. The numbers are on our side. If we stand united, we can change course.
Amerika, it is over no borders no peace, this government has been hijacked by do nothing republicans and commie democRats.
''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''
Not hijacked my friend. We turned it over to them in the last election. We are getting what we deserve.
The House Republicans really kicked Sensenbrenners butt. I guess they blame him for losing the House with his get tough immigration bill.
Agree, we have to fight this by staying active and writing letters to politicians and newspapers. Tell them we value citizenship, not turning illegal welfare mouths into Democrat voters. Otherwise, we may need another American war of independance to get a government run by patriots.
The most we can hope for is one Senator to have the backbone to put a 'hold' on any amnesty bill.
I don't think we have any, however. None did it last year when the bill came up.
Another sickening thought:
An 'undocumented' person that comes here now and then to make a buck is one thing, even when truly illegal.
Another thing is when entire nations export their poverty and their crime on purpose, knowing the US system, the anchor baby racket, and every public service they can milk, and then manage to find allies amongst US politicians!
Collectively, our government is complicit, and the fact that most politicians are 'of age' and their families are 'set' regardless is probably part of the problem: they will be 'elite' and well funded regardless, we can be sure of that.
Any challenges to my thoughts?
Can it be another explanation for the ongoing corrupt behavior of our collective 'representatives' but the above?
It really is, as said before many times, a matter of 'following the money' now and (mostly) later, for the elite generation will fare very well regardless of what happens to the 'people' that actually has and will continue to work for a living (and of course, to support the free-loaders).
And thats what I can't seem to understand-why the GOP is dead set on making itself the permanent minority party in this country.
Latinos voted almost 70% Dem in November.Nothing I see on the horizon is going to change that.
So why the death wish among Bush,Rove and cronies?
