LONG BEACH, Calif. Police have identified the suspect in the shooting of a veteran officer and his rookie partner who were shot multiple times during a during a routine traffic stop in downtown Long Beach Friday.

At a late-night news conference this evening, Police Chief Anthony Batts called 33-year-old Oscar Gallegos a "thug."

Batts gave this advice to Gallegos whose long rap sheet includes arrests on drug charges, terrorist threats and assault with a deadly weapon.

He said, "Turn yourself in because we are coming for you. We are going to track you down. You cannot run far enough or long enough until we catch you."

Police say the officers, identified as 37-year-old Abe Yap and 39-year-old Roy Wade, are in critical but stable condition at Long Beach Memorial Medical Center.

Yap, a department veteran, was shot in the face. The bullet entered through his lip and exited through his cheek.

Wade, who sustained the worst injuries, was shot multiple times in the chest and throat. The rookie police officer is described as a gentle giant who wanted to become a professional basketball player. He ended up starting his other dream job as an officer just three weeks ago.

Police officials say the officers were shot Friday afternoon when they pulled over a car and the driver got out and opened fire.

The white 1998 Nissan Pathfinder the suspect was driving, riddled with bullet holes, was found two blocks from the scene of the shooting.

Police say Gallegos was pulled over for running a red light. He got out of his car and opened fire on the officers.

Gallegos faces a possible charge of attempted murder of a police officer in the commission of his duty.

And people wonder why cops act the way that they do. Here's to hoping that the two recover and the guy gets it on the street when trying to go for his gun.

They're bringing their culture of violence and lawlessness over the border with them.

I read yesterday that an oceanside officer was shot and killed too. Isn't that close to San Diego?

"Possible"? Wow, what a reaction to a traffic stop over a red light. Imagine what would happen if you messed with his girl...

They forgot NEGLECTED to include his "SEVERAL DEPORTATIONS BACK TO MEXICO" on that list. Continued prayers for both officers.

Or even looked at him cross-eyed.

The Lurkin family is looking to escape California at the earliest opportunity - hopefully there is an America left somewhere.

Anyone taking bets on his country of origin?

The MSM doesn't want to stir up the masses on the issue of illegals. We need to keep telling our friends who don't read the net of the facts. We can turn around opinion.

I had to watch the video before there was any talk about him being "deported." I'm sure this was purely inadvertent on the part of the print media. But there's good news/bad news here.

The good news: When they catch him, he won't be deported this time.

The bad news: One more violent illegal alien serving time in California's overcrowded prisons at taxpayers expense.

Why the delay? You know that you should have moved years ago.

Are you referring to the 'virtual fence' or the chainlink fence?

I watched the LBPD chief's press conference live last night, as I related on the original thread on this incident. Interesting to me that the chief mentioned "several deportations" but omitted naming the "other country." Police are well-schooled, not only in PC, but the presence of Mexican Mafia in the prisons.

Original thread on the shooting of the 2 LBPD officers: http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1757486/posts

BTW, all subsequent television reports have omitted the info re deportations, so I seriously doubt that is inadvertent.

Oh, and no mention was given to the "terrorist threats" that Gallegos made in 1997. Is it too much of a stretch the dude was doing some work for AQ?

Continued prayers for the wounded police officers and their families.

Terrorist threats are not what you are assuming them to be. For many years now a "terrorist threat" is as simple as telling someone you are going to kill them.
The police/DA's/etc. rephrased them many years ago.

Probably, it would be best to know specifically what the terrorist threat was in this case.

I don't understand how a threat to kill someone would be classified as a terrorist threat unless the threatened individual was a public figure ...?

This is the first I have heard of what you have stated. Do you work for law enforcement or attorneys...?

Political Correctness is yet another method of putting blinders on and, in the final analysis, will be our undoing.

As you could tell, I was being heavily sarcastic about the media and their omissions about deportations. As for terrorist threats, I doubt he is with AQ. In Kaleefornia people sometimes have nasty tempers, and they will scream at or call someone they're particularly angry with and threaten to kill them or something like that. It is considered a terrorist threat. It's Kaleefornia Penal Code Section 422 - Terrorist Threats.

The heading: "Threats to Commit Crime Resulting in Death or Great Bodily Injury."
